About Collin Tackett

Nice to meet you! My name is Collin, and I fell in love with tabletop games in 2013 after watching one of my favorite YouTube channels play a game of 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons. I was blown away by the freedom of choice, the collaborative storytelling, and how narratives could evolve through the smallest of decisions. Coming from a conservative household, and my father buying into the Satanic Panic in the 80s, I was unable to play the game myself until two years later, when my mother secretly bought me the 5th Edition Starter Set, and not one week later I was running the Lost Mines of Phandelver for anyone who would sit at my table. From then on I ate, slept, and breathed GMing. I began religiously following Matthew Colville's 'Running the Game' series, binge watching watching Critical Role Campaign One night to the detriment of my sleep schedule through high school, and running and building the homebrew world I use to this day. With over ten years of Game Mastering in various systems, I pride myself on a deep love for creating stories with my players and giving them the tools to fulfill their dream for their character, even if that isn't within the vanilla rules.

My favorite shows/movies are

The Lord of the Rings, the Two Towers Superman (2025) Tick, Tick... Boom! Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia Abbot Elementary Trailer Park Boys

My favorite system of all Time is

Cyberpunk RED. The freedom that the character creation system provides to create the exact archetype of character you envision in your mind is one of my favorite things in any TTRPG. The stories that come from the gritty, unforgiving rule set are some of the best to unfold from any table I've played

How Collin Tackett runs games

First and foremost I am a GM who prioritizes positive player experiences, with a desire to work with players to achieve their ideal vision for their time in our game. A player sitting at my table can expect an emphasis on roleplay, exploration, and cinematic, high stakes combat encounters. I often describe my style as somewhere between Brian Murphy, Brennan Lee Mulligan, and Matthew Colville; comedic, dramatic, and very willing to let my players put themselves into a bad situation.

I prep by

listening to my playlists, playing games that are similar in vibe to the story I'm telling, or when I'm at the gym or on walks.

My favorite trope is...

a race against time. I love putting players in a position where the world is at their fingertips, but there isn't enough time to explore everything they would want to. I am a big fan of introducing villains early and having them develop their plans as the heroes chase them down.

Rules are...

More of a suggestion than a set of laws. Don't get me wrong, I can be a stickler for the rules when the moment calls for it, but first and foremost I believe we're all here to have fun. If ignoring the rules makes the experience even better, then I'm all for it.
