About Bails O'Hay

You've found the right place. I'm Bails, and I am the Game Master you have been searching for. Whether you are searching for dynamic roleplay in a "living world" or to test your steel on challenging foes I am here to help create a memorable journey tailored to your group! I focus on weaving your character's backstory, ambitions, flaws, and relationships into an experience that caters to your interests. I have participated in voice acting for small projects around the internet, and love bringing your favorite NPCs to a new level. My playstyle focuses on more grounded games, but I always make sure that they are inclusive and never shy away from classic DnD shenanigans. I am very familiar with the rules, but I am always open to hearing out ideas, especially if they are creative. I will always provide handouts in game, dynamic hd maps, ambient music, provide all books, and more. ** Please note if there is an official module you would like I can and will run it for you.** My availability can be discussed but mostly revolves around Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Let's craft a new story together!

I became a GM because

I became a GM because I love story crafting and the ability to step into new worlds where I can help build something truly unique. There's something special about the way tabletop RPGs let you create stories collaboratively with players shaping the direction, tone, and heart of the adventure.

I got started GMing...

I started DMing in the Summer of 2021, stepping in after my friend who had been running a game for our college friend group in 2019. I had fallen in love with the game during that campaign, and when the opportunity came to run one of my own, I ran with it.

My favorite shows/movies are

Some of my favorite shows are The OA, Over the Garden Wall, and Twin Peaks! As far as movies go I have too many favorites to list, but three come to mind: The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth (1986), Legend (1985). The blend of mystery, whimsy, and dark twists have always had an influence on my stories!

How Bails O'Hay runs games

Heavy Roleplay Focus: I craft immersive living worlds where character interaction drives the story. Expect a living world where actions AND words illicit real responses. Difficult, Roleplay Driven Combat: In my games, combat isn't just about rolling high. It's about tactical challenges, integrated with story telling. Your creativity and choices in roleplay will influence battles. Grounded Settings: I prefer campaigns to have rich atmosphere blended into a wondrous setting. Actions should be expected to affect the world,in both good and bad ways! That being said, there is a time for silliness as well. Emphassis on Character Development: I encourage players to grow their characters emotionally and narratively over the course of a campaign. The interaction of plot with characters' motivations, flaws, and relationships has led to some of the most amazing stories.

I deal with rules issues by...

by making quick, fair calls in the moment to keep the game flowing, then looking up the detailed explanations afterward. I prioritize pacing and player engagement, so I try not to let the table stall over technicalities. After the session, I’ll review the rule in question and clarify later.

My games focus on...

My games focus on narrative above all else. I love crafting living, breathing worlds places where things happen not just because the players act, but sometimes because they don’t. Actions have consequences, and inaction does too. That sense, I've noticed, helps players feel truly immersed.

When it comes to voices

I have some experience in small voice acting roles, from singing backtracks to actual audiobased voice acting. While I’m not a full-time voice actor, I enjoy using those skills at the table to bring important NPCs to life. I focus on making each voice reflect the character’s personality.

Bails O'Hay's ideal table

What is your table like? My table focuses heavily on narrative and collaborative storytelling. The story is the heart of the game, but there’s plenty of room for creative problem-solving and fun roleplay. What types of players fit well? Players who enjoy roleplaying, character-driven stories, and teamwork will thrive here. If you like bringing your character to life through their personality, flaws, and motivations, this is the place for you. I appreciate creativity and players who respect the game and each other. Overall I like to keep the vibe is relaxed but focused. We’re here to have fun, and dive into meaningful stories and memorable moments. I encourage player input and collaboration, and I’m open to mixing humor with darker or emotional themes. Everyone’s voice matters, and the table is a safe, welcoming space.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

If you’re into fun stories, cool worlds, and playing characters who really matter, you’ll love my table. We keep things relaxed but focused on creativity and teamwork, with plenty of memorable moments and surprises along the way.

I love it when a player

Gets creative with their ideas, or dive deep into their character's emotions. Those moments can make the game feel alive and enhances the story. It also tickles me when players tackle challenges with inventive solutions, think outside the box and don't just rely on dice rolls to get by.

I think metagaming...

I’m against metagaming because it can undermine immersion and the integrity of the story. I want players to experience the world through their characters’ perspectives, making decisions based on what their characters know and feel not what the players happen to know outside the game.
