About me
I’m a GM with over 30 happy years of running inclusive, character-driven stories. I live on a small island where I keep sheep and spin and weave, and I enjoy bringing that knowledge of traditional skills and rural life into games. I’m queer, disabled and know the importance of role-playing games as a way to explore different ways as being. I look forward to helping you build a character you love, a world you believe in and adventures you’ll never forget.
GM Style
My players describe my style as: “Chaotic soap opera.” I find details like the weather and knowing your character’s birthday help to build immersion as much as the magic system or political history of a setting. I enjoy looking at a system’s rules as a tool for expressing creativity but also as a way of sparking it. What would a spell like Create Food and Water do to a society? How can a city run safely when Fireball exists? I love looking for ways to imagine what it’s like to inhabit a world like that, and to invite the players to step inside.

Howard is an amazing G.M. From the get go he’s welcoming, warm and infectiously enthusiastic not only about the campaign but also about your character. You can always tell he’s rooting for you. He’s an unbelievable improviser when it comes to handling any curve balls you throw at him and every new N.P.C he voices is ‘my favourite N.P.C of the campaign’. He always knows the rules but always puts players enjoyment at the forefront. Above all else though, Howard runs fun, safe campaigns and always fosters comfort and camraderie among everyone at the table.
Howard ran an enormously fun Session Zero for Root. He was supportive of player creativity in building our characters and the world we would explore. We even managed to get in an adventure which we built collaboratively. Really looking forward to playing in this campaign. Howard created original art for our group based on the session. Lucky me, I get to see my character memorialized - - victorious - -in her first adventure!!!
A really friendly and open DM, exceptionally approachable, really proactive with safety and boundary-setting tools. Brilliant at setting the scene too, highly immersive. I would really highly recommend Howard as a DM, for anyone but particularly for those who might be anxious about playing with new people and those who are looking for an inclusive environment.
Howard is great. When I first started playing D&D a couple of years ago, Howard spent lots of time helping me understand the basics. Not only did he he me in create my first character, but he also patiently guided me through the nuances of the game world, ensuring I felt confident. Howard excels at creating character-driven narratives and immersive worlds that captivate the imagination. He doesn't confine himself to the rulebook; instead, he fosters a space where players can develop intricate, unique characters that add depth to the game. For instance, while my character may technically be a Paladin, her identity is shaped more by her past as a barmaid, her passion for arm-wrestling, and her conflicted feelings about her hidden royal heritage. As a queer player, I also really appreciate the inclusive atmosphere Howard creates within the game. He actively works to ensure that all players feel comfortable and accepted, employing various tools such as player check-ins and Stars and Wishes to address any concerns promptly and prevent potential issues from escalating. In short, Howard isn't just a dungeon master; he's a storyteller, a mentor, and a champion of inclusivity. His passion for creating gaming experiences is infectious, and I feel lucky he's my DM. Whether you're a complete beginner or a more seasoned player, Howard is the person for you.
