About Keefer Gank

Hey there! I’m a seasoned Game Master with a special love for horror, tension, and one-shot storytelling. I’ve been running games for years, with a strong focus on player immersion, narrative tension, and collaborative weirdness. Mothership is my specialty. I run games that are gritty, player-driven, and rich with atmospheric detail. Expect existential dread, analog tech, messed-up choices, and the occasional hopeful spark. I started out as the forever DM for DND which quickly evolved into an irresponsible collection of zines and trifolds. I have a strong background in one shots and short form campaigns. I built and run a discord server focused on offering GMs and players low commitment and low stress one shots that allow them to experiment with different systems as well.

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

Mothership, Shadowdark, and Pirateborg fill all facets of settings and grit. Shadowdark showcases the best of high fantasy while maintaining a gritty, dark combat focus. Mothership is high stakes combat lite with mystery and fear. While Pirateborg is about adventure and mischief and is rules lite.

How Keefer Gank runs games

The story is everything to me. I hope that anyone that plays a game with me can walk away with a story to tell. I enjoy games that are easy to pick up and start playing without huge time commitments. I tend to lean towards high stakes action minus the long combat phases while incentivizing player teamwork and doing cool stuff. I love in depth characters with good backstories that link with the campaign and make for good roleplaying moments. I try to run the game so that if you do something that is creative and awesome you will most likely be able to do that thing.

Rules are...

The framework upon which we build our world, the limits, balances, and structure of the session. Rules are not, however, the defining characteristic of the game, they provide structure not substance, texture not flavor, and they are never intended to become obstacles to the story.

I think metagaming...

is inevitable, everyone knows it’s a game and plays their best. I prefer running games that challenge the player over the character, so PCs become story connections rather than optimized toolkits.
