About me

Hi, I'm Athena- a university student and forever DM, until recently! I have 5 years of experience as a DM- mostly within D&D 5E and 2024 D&D- running campaigns in homebrewed worlds that are wide-spanning, mysterious, and my own take on high fantasy. After 5 years of this, and admittedly having used to be very bad at prep, I now really pride myself on improvisation within sessions and have found it to lead to some very fun moments. I also ensure that my tables will be absolutely LGBTQ+ friendly and welcoming, as I myself am a queer trans woman! I adore characters and their arcs, themes, and stories- it's one of the things that most excites me! Excellent roleplay is always amazing to witness and take part in as a DM- so, when characters interact well with the themes and narratives of their own stories and the overarching plot, I really have so much fun. Story is everything to me and I value the great ones you can build together. As a DM, good communication is an absolute must between the whole group and with myself. I generally stick to the rules, but will always be willing to bend them for great moments or just doing something cool! I can easily play with 5E or D&D 2024 rules and own enough content on D&DBeyond to actually help make your character sheets!

GM Style

I'm a very story-focused DM, and love to let character moments shine through. The best part of DnD, for me, is the narrative that myself and players can build together, and the characters are the heart of that! I tend to run games very focused on story, plot, and characters. Great roleplay, including between players, is always welcomed and encouraged- but describing what your character would do and say can also work well for those less comfortable roleplaying- anything that builds a great story! Also, I'm by no means a voice actor, but I do attempt with voices- giving characters different personalities, inflections, or accents where I can. On the combat side of things, I do enjoy a tactical element to all my games- so battle maps can be my best friend and allow me to make more strategical combat. However, my first 3 years of DMing was all theatre of the mind, so I'm very accustomed with leaving it in that headspace. It basically comes down to whatever my party prefers! No matter what though, within combat, I am willing to bend the rules a little to allow for cool stuff to occur. Creative problem solving by using spells/abilities in a non-RAW way is always exciting to see!
