About me

Hello, I'm Leaf! I'm a neurodivergent voice actor, worldbuilder, fantasy writer, and I make DnD/RPG content on Youtube/Twitch under the handle "astoryofaleaf"! I have a background in theatre during High school and film production during college, so I approach my games in a very thematic way. I have been a player and GM for 7 years, and long before I had anyone to play DnD or TTRPGs with, I was an avid worldbuilder, storyteller, and writer for 17+ years. I've always loved collaborative storytelling and I believe that TTRPGs are the best medium for that, so as soon as I started playing DnD 5e with friends, I was hooked! For my first few years as a GM, I ran games in various settings, including the "Elder Scrolls" universe, and other homebrew settings. I have been crafting a homebrew world for the past several years, and simultaneously running a weekly online campaign close to 3 years, as well as several other bi-weekly/monthly IRL campaigns and several one-shots and "mini-series" set in various periods of time, all within the same homebrew world. During this time, I was working other jobs full-time, but now I'm working to become a professional GM full-time; dedicating myself to the games I host.

GM Style

- Mostly RAW/RAI (pending creative player choices) - Equal mix of roleplay, mystery/intrigue, exploration/puzzles, & combat (will tailor to player requests). - Character Voices! I strive to make games that are compelling, inclusive, dramatic, comedic, & above all fun! Safety, player agency, and providing a safe space for my players to tell the story they want for their characters are very important to me. I want my players to experience gut busting laughter, heartbreaking drama, unsuspected shock, terrifying suspense, and any other cathartic emotional release that they seek. My games are PC-centric, unique, and tailormade to bring the PCs into the larger narrative. Olyria, the homebrew setting my games will be set in, is an open sandbox style world that I encourage the players to interact with however interests them. Players can expect the overarching story to be intertwined with the PCs’ backstories. I love seeing how player actions affect the world at large and seeing how the various campaigns comingle to shape the world anew in ways I had not foreseen. As a result the environment will react to what the party does so the setting feels dynamic, lively, and immersive. Making sure the party sees the weight and effect of their decisions (for the better, worse, or neutral), is great fun for me! I make games as challenging or deadly as players prefer and I'm accepting of all levels of experience. Do not let a lack of experience hold you back! I am more than willing to hold your hand and guide you every step of the way, blending character backstory into the lore of the world and answering any questions regarding character creation (from build to backstory). All people are welcome at my games, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity/expression, sex, orientation, religion/spirituality, background, etc. However, hate speech, harassment, and bullying will not be tolerated! Making sure I create a comfortable space for my players to be themselves without fear of judgment or hate is incredibly important to me, so I have no room for players that are intolerant towards others, though I wish you the best of luck on your journey towards empathy and self-love! My games cover a wide variety of real-world topics/problems that may be sensitive to some players. I'm acutely aware of this and any triggers, lines, veils, etc. will be covered in a free Session 0. I provide various safety tools during the game, in case something unexpected comes up and post-game aftercare is also provided. You are also always welcome to reach out to me one on one if you have any issues or problems with me, another player, or the game/story itself. I have always been a student of accents and voices, so expect character voices for all my NPCs with regional accents/dialects. Players may be able to distinguish and speculate where a character is from just based on the voice and I feel it provides a deeper level of immersion. There is no expectation for players to do the same! You do not need to be an actor to play DnD, but if you want to try, my games are a safe space to do your best at a character voice that you think is fun (excluding racist caricatures). I mostly run games RAW/RAI but I love to facilitate creative choices, so long as they do not step on the toes of other existing character traits/features. Ruling a game consistently allows me to be as fair as possible, so everyone can feel like their character can shine in whatever niche they aspire to! I have created and play tested dozens of homebrew rules that mostly allow for more player options and versatility, so that you can play the exact character you want. There are many homebrew lineages, subclasses, & magic items that I have created/used, so I am happy to allow things outside of official DnD content. Homebrew will need to be approved by me before playing. I may modify homebrew that is too powerful so that I can allow players to use it, as it is very important to me that everyone at my table feels like they are as effective as the rest of the characters at what they do. Disclaimer: a player's freedom to act however they see fit ends as soon as it negatively affects the enjoyment of the rest of the party. I take "problem player behavior" very seriously and will not tolerate it! I know that your time and money is precious, and it is not fair to let a player ruin the fun of others, so please keep in mind that we are playing a group game and everyone's enjoyment is just as important as our own! I am open to running custom games as well, including using other systems. I am just most comfortable with DnD 5e.
