About me

I've been running and playing in RPGs for decades now. While I'm pretty picky about the types of games and systems I'm interested in, I've also tried a bunch because I'm always interested in learning new systems and ways of approaching storytelling. Because ultimately it's a collaborative process. I love the meticulous planning of being a GM, but also love the on-the-fly, by the seat of your pants nature of successfully running any game, because no matter how well planned, no campaign survives first contact with players :) Shortly after I started playing D&D 5E I made the move to Roll20. I racked up over 12k hours on that platform before moving over to Foundry VTT and I haven't looked back. I've also tried a number of A/V apps but have settled on Discord these days as we've had the most luck with international players and stability. I've played dozens of different RPGs over the years, but am currently most interested in running scenarios in the following systems: D&D 5e, Call of Cthulhu 7e, Delta Green, Year Zero Engine derivatives (Alien, Blade Runner, Twilight 2000, The Walking Dead). I've run a number of longer campaigns that have lasted for years, but I also love running one-shots. My horror one-shots tend to be deadly, but I also love running more experimental scenarios, playtesting of a sort, such as my conversion of Delta Green to the Year Zero Engine (it works), or the various D&D 1e scenarios I've converted to 5e.

GM style

I definitely stress roleplay in my games when I can. But what's a game without conflict? Whether it's a campaign, or a one-shot, you want to have a good mix of both. Of course, what that mix looks like will depend on the game. You can usually expect at least one combat in a session of 5e, but combat in Call of Cthulhu is usually a sign that something has gone very wrong. I'm generally pretty laid back as a DM. The rules are there to add constraints to our story, but they're made to be bent, and sometimes broken. I think that all such things are a group decision, though.
