About Apoc

Heya! I’m Apoc, I'm the GM you want if you enjoy long-term, lore-rich campaigns with a focus on roleplay and the party's characters. I put a big focus on you, the player, your character, and the party as a whole. I highly encourage player-to-player roleplay! I create most of my content myself. This includes custom maps, custom creatures, custom items, and homebrew player character options. This also includes overhauling the base 5e content, and including content from the Forgotten Realms lore to give the players more options. Here’s a little bit about my experience: I’ve been playing D&D 5e since March 2021 and have had the privilege of being a GM since January 2022. I’ve hosted two custom one-shots for four groups—which taught me a lot about how to design smaller adventures. I've also hosted and completed a major campaign; a two-year-long campaign which played out during the events of Baldur's Gate 1, sometimes overlapping with the story of Gorion's Ward. Lastly, I've hosted a short campaign set in the Silver Marches, and another in the Dragon Coast near Westgate. Each of these campaigns were filled with my own custom content, and put a big focus on the player characters. And I’m always looking to improve my storytelling, whether it’s through in-depth lore, expansive world-building, or creative custom content. I'm very player-friendly, and will make sure you're having fun and your voice is heard throughout the campaign. I believe communication is the key to a successful game. I’m always eager to hear feedback and critique. I’m always eager to hear what you have to say. Send me a message if you're interested in playing with me! Even if there's not a listing for a game currently open, I have an open schedule. Hopefully we can have some amazing and memorable adventures!

I became a GM because

I love writing and creating worlds. Soon after I began playing D&D I quickly began working on my own games. I love providing people a D&D experience that stands out.

I got started GMing...

Running one shots for groups I was playing in as a player. Whenever we'd have a week or two off I'd be hosting a one shot to get used to what it's like to be a gamemaster. Soon after that I ran my first campaign.

When I'm not running games I'm...

working on my games, studying various topics, or playing games to study their story & game design.

How Apoc runs games

I prepare my campaigns with a lot of effort in advance. I make sure to properly structure the campaign and get a rough sense of what I want to do with the story. Once players have begun joining, I will go through the process of creating characters with them, making sure to really understand what they want to play, and give them a large number of options to build their desired character. My campaigns include a lot of content from the Forgotten Realms that has not been included in 5e. I also research the Forgotten Realms whenever I decide to touch on a certain piece of lore in the campaign, and if it does not have any expansive lore yet, I will write something completely new if necessary. I love to write stories and lore, and try to make it something the players have to discover. I usually go by "Show, don't tell". I overhaul a lot of 5e content, so expect some improvements on the base content!

I deal with rules issues by...

deciding wether they need to be looked into right away or after the session. If its a simple decision, I will make it clear right away. For more complicated issues I adress them after the session.

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...

Me. I value my creative vision. I think its important that a d&d game, or any piece of entertainment/media has a specific creative vision that is unqiue to the creator. I do however look for inspiration from many of the entertainment industry's best creative visionaries.

I prep by

spending as many hours each week researching various topics, working on maps in Inkarnate and setting things up in foundry such as the creatures. I'm usually listening to some kind of video about writing or science/history/culture

Apoc's ideal table

I always aim to have a group of players that fit eachother. I don't simply let players join my game and expect them to behave according to the group. I make sure that my players feel comfortable being in the group, able to be themselves and not have to change their behaviour to fit in. I am not afraid to remove players if they cause conflict in the group as I value a relaxed and joyful atmosphere.

I love it when a player

Is fully immersed in the roleplay, speaking as if they truly are their character, and describing their actions just as if they were there. I reward players for describing what they want to do instead of just simply asking to roll for it.

I think min/maxing...

Min/maxing is boring and sabotages other players if their characters are not min/maxed. build your character based on writing and roleplay! You don't need to deal tons of damage or have the game-breaking solution to every problem! In my games, interesting characters lead to fun sessions.

My table is not the place for...

I don't allow any politics or controversial topics that aren't directly related to the game. We're here to escape the real world and enjoy exploring a story together.
