About me

Fantasy gaming has always been a huge part of my life. I started playing any and all videogames I could get my hands on from a very young age, and I've spend hundreds of hours since then playing Legend of Dragoon, early Final Fantasy games, the Witcher, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, the Elder Scrolls, and more. I’ve always taken inspiration from the art, characters, and storylines from my favorite games, and I love to integrate that inspiration into my tabletop games. I dabbled with DnD in college with friends, but had my first real taste when I stumbled into my Dad-in-law's DnD family campaign around 2014 and was totally hooked. I started running games professionally four years later in 2018, and I've been having a fantastic time with it ever since. I'm branching out from my usual mediums for connecting with new players to StartPlaying because I'm looking to connect with more-dedicated players, who want all the same things out of a regular and professionally-run game as I do. My games are as inclusive as I can make them. I’m a white guy from Western Canada (born and raised in Saskatchewan, now living in BC), and I love meeting and playing with folks from other areas and with different life experiences. I have a no-tolerance policy on bigotry and sexism, and will remove players who are problematic in this regard immediately. I always make use of safety tools in all of my games. I warn players ahead of time of any potentially disturbing content, and at any time during a game you can use the X-card system to send me a DM over discord just with an 'X'. I'll wrap that segment up as quickly as I can, and we can discuss it after the game to determine if changes can be made to accommodate that storyline, or if it's best we move away from it.

GM style

I think a balance of roleplay, combat, and exploration is integral to a good DnD game. I want your characters to get to know each other around the campfire and talk strategy in character, so that when you get deep into a combat situation, roleplaying scenario, or environment- or investigation-based encounter, you'll work together well both in and out of the game. I do my best work as a DM when the players are actively involved in the narrative we’re building together, and want to exercise any agency they can over the course of the story. I always start my campaigns with a hardcover adventure, but as things get going, I love to let the players and their characters cut loose to do whatever they want. As a result, I’m always adding maps and new story beats as we go. I think fairness from the DM is very important. I'll never put a threat in front of you that you either can't handle or can't run from, but it's up to you to decide which is which. Because when the chips are down and it's life or death, I won't fudge the rolls.
