About AaronDungeonMaster

I am a 46 year old DM (He/Him) who considers himself an ally for the LGBTQ+ gaming community and loves seeing more inclusion and representation coming to my favorite hobby, table top role playing games! I've been playing TTRPGS for over 31 years now and DMing for 22 of those years. My preferred system is D&D 5E but I have begun branching out into Call of Cthulhu 7E and World of Darkness 5E.

My favorite books are

Favorite Series: The Kingkiller Chronicles, The Dresden Files, The Gentleman Bastards Series are favorite fantasy novels. Other Favorites: Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell, American Gods, and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRou

My favorite system of all Time is

5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons. Though I've been playing TTRPGs for 33 years and I have a deep love for some old school systems like Palladium, Shadowrun 2nd Edition, Rifts, White Wolf WOD. Some modern systems I love too like Call of Cthulhu 7th Ed, and Vampire 5th Ed.

When I'm not running games I'm...

making artwork for my games, writing game content, or working on my adventure module I plan to publish soon!

How AaronDungeonMaster runs games

I am a roleplayer at heart. I don't have anything against a min/maxer but even for a min/max build I still reward roleplay that makes that build make sense. Each session I give out two awards, nominated and voted on by the players. One for Best Roleplay (encouraging a great roleplay moment) and one for MVP of the night (encouraging good game play or that clutch moment which changed the course of the battle/scene). I like to do voices (as best I can) but don't expect that from my players. I do run a session zero prior to character development and go over important factors like, type of adventure the group wants, levels of comfort with difficult topics and potential triggers to avoid in our story telling together. I am not OK with NSFW or ERP, nor am I OK with PVP amongst the group. I bring to the table access to my DnDBeyond (main content, and all races unlocked) and use the Beyond20 extension to push rolls on DnDBeyond to Roll20/Foundry. I prefer to run modules but will heavily homebrew them in order for the stories to fit your character's backstories and to fit the type of adventure your party is looking for! Let's book a session and build a world together!

I deal with rules issues by...

Asking for clarification on the player's understanding of the rule, looking it up if necessary and making a ruling. I will always admit when I was wrong and do my best to make corrections accordingly. We are here to tell stories together, not argue about rules.

Rules are...

well... "the code is more what you'd call guidelines than actual rules."

When it comes to voices

I love doing them! I am absolutely a voices GM! I don't expect my players to do the same. Everyone at my table can participate in a way that makes them comfortable.

AaronDungeonMaster's ideal table

I love a table full of people who want to participate. Not just during the session either. I build Discord servers for my games so my players have the freedom to roleplay in-between sessions and build deep relationships with their fellow players and the world.

I love it when a player

asks "Why?" When you see something in the world, ask why that thing is the way it is! In character and above the table, asking "Why?" shows interest in the world, in the story, in the game and your fellow players' characters.

I think it's a red flag when players...

say "It's what my character would do" to justify doing something awful to their fellow players.

I think min/maxing...

is fine if you do it with a story or character theme in mind, not just maxing the numbers but building a character whose numbers make sense for their story.
