About me
I offer one-shots and mini-campaigns alongside sessions (and series of sessions) that support our growth as TTRPG players as well as our self-awareness and self-confidence. I figure why not learn ways of playing that bring the game more enjoyable to life and bring me more to life at the same time!? It has also been whispered, among those who live and work in the edges, the dusk and dawn, the liminal, the dimpsy time ... that I tell stories. Perhaps the truth of that is that stories choose me and crawl into my belly where sometimes they erupt into a room. And that when this happens the audience participates and while the story nourishes them, they feed the story right back so that it might live to be dined upon in another room on another night. About me: I'm 48, English and after 15 years working in Mental Health Services I moved on from that and moved out of the city. Now I live in a cabin in a field and grow vegetables to sell, when I'm not applying everything I learned in my previous career to what I call Cultural Healing. That is, weaving together individual and group offers such as mentoring and facilitation including conflict transformation and compassionate communication, that take the perceived problem out of the individual (non- or anti-pathologising the person) and placing it in the society we share our roots in, where we can see them as symptoms of the wounds in our culture.
GM Style
I am passionate about the experience of cooperative storytelling and I encourage players to co-create the world with me. I focus on tending to the atmosphere we create together at the table and the way we adventure together is the vehicle for that - be it exploring dusty ruins, pulling strings at a high-society ball or getting crunchy with spell and blade. My main influences as a GM come from mythology and folk tales, as well as the absurdity of so-called modern civilised living. Weaving the two together into a tale that feels both old and modern at the same time is my guiding north star for TTRPGs. I much prefer engaging with theatre-of-the-mind, as no virtual tabletop can create what we can imagine - but they can limit it. That said, I do appreciate some of what virtual tabletops can bring and have been known to drag one kicking and screaming into my games.
