About the adventure

A survival-horror game set in upstate New York after a devastating fungal infection has turned most people into ravenous zombies. Taking cues from the last of us, 28 days later, mad max, and the fallout series; this game focuses on the human element of survival. Fight infected and despair as you struggle to maintain hope at the end of the modern world.

Additional Details

How to prepare

A decent mic and internet connection is required, along with discord. Most of the game will take place in the theatre of the mind, but for more tactical combat moments, owlbear (an in-browser VTT) will be used. Owlbear will also be used for collective map-making. Players may roll their own dice if preferred, but both the discord server and owlbear provide virtual dice.

What I provide

I will be providing a start-up guide for “We Lucky Few” including all new weapons, character classes, equipment, and programs.

Gameplay details

Play will begin with a session 0 creating at least 2 characters. This is a home-brewed hack of Old School Essentials into the modern age, so things get deadly, QUICK. Players will need to be smart about combat and always remember that a single stray bullet could take their character out in the first few levels. OSE (being a b/x retro-clone) has a lot of mechanical emphasis on resource management and tactical combat. I have updated and added to this for the modern age, making the stronghold mechanic a “settlement” inspired by fallout 4. Higher level play will evolve into domain control as players attempt to resettle and secure the world. The game will be character focused and I will employ various voices for different characters, but players are not required to RP in character and can instead state how their character reacts. A decent microphone is required for discord voice chat, but cameras will be optional. As we are dealing in a modern post-apocalypse setting, subject matter can get heavy very quickly. It is so important to me that the table is a safe space with mutual respect. Players will give me an rpg consent checklist as a heads up for me in planning the games and an overall list of “yellow,” and “red” subjects will be handed out. Triggers aren’t set in stone, however, and so X,N, and O cards will be used at the table in conjunction with an open door policy.

How will character creation work

Character creation is quick and simple: 3d6 down the line, with one ability score swap if desired. Classes are picked, ability scores are further changed for prime requisites, and then a quick-start equipment is rolled. We repeat the process again for a second, backup character, and we’re ready to dive in!
