About the adventure

Come as you are, step into this this. Wherever you are with whatever weaponry, we'll make a party out of us. This is a game for anyone that wants to have fun learning while adventuring. If you've opened a players handbook and felt overwhelmed, this game is for you. Set in the Forgotten Realms. Session Zero we will set expectations, establish safety tools, and create characters together while playing a funnel adventure. Your level-0 characters aren’t heroes—yet. They’ve accepted a call to adventure and taken their first tentative steps as they attempt to rescue the victims of a gemstone mine collapse. Session Zero will conclude with everyone having a level 1 character they are excited to embody for the continuing adventure. The Lost Mine of Phandelver is the quintessential introductory adventure for D&D 5e. For centuries, rumors of buried riches have attracted treasure seekers and opportunists to the area around Phandalin, but no one has ever succeeded in locating the lost mine. In recent years, people have resettled the area. Phandalin is now a rough-and-tumble frontier town. More important, the Rockseeker brothers — a trio of dwarves — have discovered the entrance to Wave Echo Cave, and they intend to reopen the mines. Unfortunately for the Rockseekers, they are not the only ones interested in Wave Echo Cave. A mysterious villain known as the Purple Spider controls a network of bandit gangs and goblin tribes in the area, and his agents have followed the Rockseekers to their prize. Now the Black Spider wants Wave Echo Cave for himself, and he is taking steps to make sure no one else knows where it is.

How will character creation work

creating characters with a funnel adventure helps alleviate the decision paralysis that can come with the overwhelming amount of character options for new players. You create three 0 level characters via quick dice rolling during session zero. They are everyday people of your provincial mining town. For example they could be the local baker, school teacher, mischievous youth, butcher, farmer, or big game hunter. They are forced into action. By the end of the session each player will likely only have one character remaining, that character will go on as your intrepid level 1 hero. We will discuss options, flavor, and aesthetics for your characters. You will still have agency over your race/species, class and other aspects of your character.
