About the adventure

Remember summer camp? The naïve highs and lows of a teenager without parental supervision, experiencing the outdoors, competition, and new friendships while watched over only by a slightly older teen named Mark? What if you could do it all again, but this time with MAGIC? And what if, halfway through, somebody handed you a Vorpal Sword and mushrooms that triple your size?? Welcome to the Spring Teen Jamboree(n)! A "spring" camp set in your typical high-fantasy world, you will portray a level 3-5 character as they face their camp rivals, unravel the dark mysteries at the heart of the Weeping Plains, and receive incredibly overpowered items before the exciting conclusion. This short, 3-5 session campaign features entertaining roleplay, endearing NPCs, challenging combats, and an answer to the question "what happens if you give teenagers a scroll of Tarrasque summoning?" Suited both for chaos-gremlins and those who enjoy playing the "straight-man" in a world of chaos-gremlins, this campaign is sure to go off the rails in the best possible manner.

How to prepare

Players should, at a minimum, have a mic to participate. Webcams are preferred but not required. You will need to have or create a (free) Roll20 account. I will be expecting a basic knowledge of the rules of D&D, but am understanding of mistakes and room for learning. You're playing teens, you're supposed to make mistakes! Feel free to create your character ahead of time, but remember that characters will not be finalized without DM approval at session 0.

What I provide

I provide a great deal of experience using virtual table tops (VTT), the systems/websites designed to allow table top role-playing games (TTRPGs) to happen online. Additionally, I provide custom maps and a customized token for your character, and have access to a bulk of the content offered on DNDBeyond. During the game, I perform a variety of character voices, music to set the ambience, and dynamic combat beyond just the "attack, end turn" experience. While I use the rules to set realistic boundaries for player action, I encourage creative thinking and the "rule of cool" (within reason).

Gameplay details

In Session 0 we will go over character creation, expectations, and boundaries, with the goal of ensuring that everyone can have an enjoyable, comfortable experience. Lines and Veils (hard and soft limits) and Stars and Wishes (favorite moments and desires) will be dealt with via links outside of sessions. While this game deals with violence (as most any D&D game will) and the encroachment of evil (as most fantasy stories will), I hope to be able to interact with these themes in a way that is comfortable and healthy for all players, and will work with you to ensure that that's what we achieve.

How will character creation work

I encourage players to use DNDBeyond for character creation, as they provide a simple and straightforward method for creation. I can also walk players through the creation process, however, and characters will be made in session 0 (a session prior to actual play) to ensure that the process is accessible and cooperative. Your character will start at level 3. For stats, you may elect to use either point buy or standard array, or we will roll stats as a group in session 0 (4d6 drop the lowest). Players should generally restrict themselves to the ancestries/classes of the core D&D ruleset, although other playtested material is allowed with prior DM approval. Unearthed Arcana and other homebrew should be avoided for this game--I'm going to give you enough crazy stuff as it is.
