About the adventure

Our playtest for the new Candela Obscura game design you can find here! https://youtu.be/g2rz5RC-nvQ?feature=shared "You're not ill... just misinformed. I can offer you a way to carry your ghosts to rest. The shadows that you see lurking in every corner of this town are very real. We are the light that keep them from feeding on it's people." - Allan Miller, resident lightkeeper for the New England Branch of Candela Obscura Welcome to the North Shore of Massachusetts in 1901, a place both charming and sinister, where an eerie darkness taints the Edwardian era's prosperity. Amidst the quaint towns of Lynn, Salem, Peabody, Danvers, and Beverly, unsettling mysteries lurk, and the haunting past of the Salem Witch Trials still cast long, sinister shadows. The newly established New England chapter of the Candela Obscura, a secretive investigative group, are formed to confront the malevolent forces threatening to plunge the region into darkness. Candela Obscura is a cosmic horror game design built by Spenser Starke and other designers from Darrington Press of Critical Role fame! It is a very simple system to learn and provides a great space for high RP sessions filled with psychological and metaphysical terror! This game is not for the faint of heart, but for anyone who craves the dark setting of a world where everything is questioned and evil has a true face! Every player will receive a character sheet and questions to complete. Voices and cosplaying as your Edwardian hero is highly appropriate and suggested for helping put us in the immersion of the story! As listed above, If you are interested in checking out what a session will look like please feel free to check out our Candela sessions on Youtube @Itsalongstoryttrpg (we also have an IG and Tiktok @itsalongstory_ttrpg)

Additional Details

How to prepare

A decent webcam and mic is REQUIRED. This will greatly help with immersion. There will be an expectation of basic mic and presentation etiquette (don't want to see or hear you streaming from the bathroom). Character sheets will be provided in a format that will allow simple interactions.

What I provide

I will bring the story, setting, and a wealth of insider knowledge of the history, geography and lore of Lynn, Salem, and the surrounding areas. Much of the setting will be based on historical facts that I had been taught since I was born. (Salem boy, born and raised!)

Gameplay details

We will be hosting on a streaming site called Evmux.com (similar to streamyard if you're familiar). The game will be livestreamed for anyone to follow online (with each players prior permission, of course). Each player will be asked to join the It's A Long Story discord to converse with their fellow players in and out of session if needed (it's also a very cool active community to hangout and talk ttrpg stuff with others!) There will be a lines and veils survey sent out to each player and at least one session zero to discuss characters and expectations!

Content warnings

    (none)

Safety tools used
  • Lines and Veils
  • X, N, and O Cards
How will character creation work

We will have at least one session zero to discuss character creation and how to play (It is one of the simpler game systems out there, very easy to learn quickly!)

Players can expect

  • Combat/Tactics: Low
  • Roleplay: High
  • Puzzles: Medium
  • Experience Level: Open to all
