About the adventure
In modern London most people don't want to believe in the Supernatural, but you're not most people. You are part of a special group who can see the unseen and feel Vestigia, the signature magic leaves behind. Working within a special branch of the Metropolitan Police Service to solve the cases with supernatural ties. You've been called to check out an old bookshop where unusual things have begun to occur. The local constabulary have informed your group that there was an attack in a local bookshop. It seems as though the assailant was invisible, which is the sort of thing the Folly deals with best. Director Nightingale has decided this is a good first case for you to welcome you to the team. Your orders are simple, discover if magic was involved and if so, figure out how to keep it from happening again. Rivers of London RPG uses the Basic Roleplaying System created by Chaosium Games (similar to Call of Cthulu) and is based on the world built by Ben Aaronovitch in his Urban Fantasy series of the same name. Join the magical branch of the London Metropolitan Police Service, "the Folly". You will solve mysteries, catch criminals, and come to grips with the “demi-monde”—those who have been irreversibly changed by magic. How to prepare
Have some character ideas ready. Bring pen and paper or a note taking app, whichever you prefer for taking notes and marking down ideas. Join my Discord and look over the rules! Chat with other players about what kind of investigators you want to be! We will use Discord for voice, a headset is preferable over speakers. A decent microphone. It is polite to minimize background noise as much as possible while on mic. I will be using a web cam to add to the fun, however players are not obligated to be on camera. I do find it brings a little bit of that table feel to an online game.

Gameplay details
This is a modern story and deals with the police and solving crimes. The British policing system is very different from the American system however. In a world where magic is rare - being armed with guns is even rarer. Your role is to discover, analyze and (if needed) mitigate magical threats. Mundane threats are better left to the regular police. Based on the Basic Roleplaying System and lighter than Call of Cthulu.

How will character creation work
We will create characters in the first 45 min of the session. Your investigator can be a civilian or a police officer, with magical abilities or without. Either way they NEED to have a reason to work for a part of the London Metropolitan Police Department. Bring one or more character ideas to our session to make character creation move faster. Some questions to think about: - What occupation do they hold? - Can they do magic? If so are they being formally trained or is it something they picked up from a friend? - What brought them to work for this magical department in a world where magic is not really believed in or understood? - Did they have a brush with the Supernatural at some point in their life? All rules, character creation tools will be available on my Discord and help will be given. This is a learn to play one shot. Pregenerated characters will be available.
