About the adventure

SOME SECRETS ARE WORTH DYING FOR Feel the cold touch of death in this adventure for the world’s greatest roleplaying game. In Icewind Dale, adventure is a dish best-served cold. Beneath the unyielding night sky, you stand before a towering glacier and recite an ancient rhyme, causing a crack to form in the great wall of ice. Beyond this yawning fissure, the Caves of Hunger await. And past this icy dungeon is a secret so old and terrifying that few dare speak of it. The mad wizards of the Arcane Brotherhood long to possess that which the god of winter’s wrath has so coldly preserved—as do you! What fantastic secrets and treasures are entombed in the sunless heart of the glacier, and what will their discovery mean for the denizens of Icewind Dale? Can you save Ten-Towns from the Frostmaiden’s everlasting night? Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden is a tale of dark terror that revisits the forlorn, flickering candlelights of civilization known as Ten-Towns and sheds light on the many bone-chilling locations that surround these frontier settlements.

How to prepare

To prepare for each session it is important to have a computer that can run the website Roll20. You will also need access to the program or website Discord via computer or smartphone. The final requirement is a microphone so that we can hear you during the session. Cameras are greatly encouraged but are optional, they provide an extra layer of cooperation and can be helpful as a safety tool.

What I provide

I will bring a considerable amount of experience and expertise to the craft of storytelling including the use of various digital tools and software. Epic combat music, soft ambiance for roleplaying sequences, and sound effects for weapon attacks and special attacks from various digital sources. Graphics and animations for spells and effects within the virtual tabletop. Aside from the technological advantages of playing at this table I also enjoy adding my own voice to the choir of NPCs and implementing various systems to make out-of-game purchases that enhance the experience.

Gameplay details

During Session zero we will have a discussion on what the expectations for the campaign will be. Things that you want to experience (heroic fantasy, mystery, puzzle solving, complex combat, etc). We will also go over things that we would not like to see in the game. For example, I change the lore in Dungeons & Dragons to avoid fantasy racism/bigotry/homophobia. Relationships between NPCs and PCs are with consent, and I often do not build storylines around this unless it is asked for by the players. At the conclusion of every session, we participate in Stars and Wishes so that we can talk about things that were enjoyable in the game and what we are looking forward to.

How will character creation work

If you are joining us for the initial session zero we will talk about backgrounds (where our characters come from), if they knew each other prior to the adventure, or if this is the first time they are meeting. What are the themes of the campaign (retribution, regaining honor, finding family, etc)? Characters will be created either through the Charactermancer in Roll20 which is an easy intuitive character sheet builder that comes with your session payment OR you can use D&D Beyond which is familiar to many (but they have their own associated costs). When joining the game after the initial session zero we can build your character and background one on one together out of session and find ways to have your character jump into the game immediately. (Usually, the method is "you were here the whole time". Finally, if you do not want to make a character or you are joining last minute I will have pre-generated characters/character sheets ready to go.
