About the adventure

If you're new to Dungeons and Dragons 5e, you've come to the right place! My goal as a teacher and Game Master is to help guide you through the basics of the game and create a fun and engaging experience for you and your fellow players. In terms of the setting, I like to create a dynamic and immersive world that allows for a variety of different play styles and character types. Whether you prefer combat-focused gameplay, social interaction and roleplaying, or a mix of both, there will be opportunities for you to explore and engage with the world around you. The theme of my game is one of adventure and discovery, with a healthy dose of mystery and intrigue. There will be opportunities to explore new lands, uncover ancient artifacts, and battle fierce monsters, all while building relationships with the other players and NPCs along the way. As for how I like to play, I believe in creating a collaborative and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and heard. I encourage players to take an active role in shaping the story and world around them, and I strive to create opportunities for everyone to shine and showcase their unique strengths and abilities. Ultimately, my game is for anyone who enjoys storytelling, problem-solving, and working together as a team to achieve a common goal. Whether you're a seasoned gamer or brand new to the world of tabletop RPGs, I look forward to welcoming you to the adventure!

How to prepare

For my game, players will need a microphone in order to communicate with the other players and myself during the game. A webcam is not required, but it can enhance the experience and help players connect with each other visually. I recommend that players read the basic rules ahead of time to familiarize themselves with the mechanics of the game. However, I am happy to provide guidance and answer questions during the game as well so please feel free to ask. I would also recommend watching basis tutorials on Roll20 on how to play. This helps out tremendously. a good link is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTuOa2Ba2_w Players will need to create their own characters on Roll20, and I am available to assist with the process and answer any questions that may come up. This will be done during session 0. Players will need their own set of dice in order to play. If a player does not have a physical set of dice, there are virtual dice rolling apps available online that can be used instead.

What I provide

Regarding illustrations of characters, I will provide players with illustrations of their characters after the game, if requested. I can recommend various artists who specialize in character art commissions if a player is interested in commissioning a piece.

Gameplay details

In Session 0, I like to cover a variety of topics to ensure that everyone is on the same page and has a clear understanding of the game world, their characters, and the expectations for the campaign. Some of the things I typically go over include: Campaign Setting: I provide a brief overview of the world and setting, including any relevant history, politics, or cultural norms that players should be aware of. Character Creation: I provide guidance and assistance with character creation, including any house rules or restrictions that apply. I also encourage players to share their character's backstory and personal goals, which can help inform the direction of the campaign and create a more engaging and immersive experience. Game Mechanics: I explain the rules and mechanics of the game, including any modifications or house rules that apply. I also encourage players to ask questions and clarify any rules they may be unsure of. Expectations: I go over my expectations for player behavior and engagement during the game, as well as any social norms or expectations for communication outside of the game. Regarding aftercare, I believe in providing a safe and supportive environment for all players, both during and after the game. After each session, I like to check in with players to see how they are feeling and address any concerns or issues that may have come up. I also encourage players to reach out to me if they need support or guidance outside of the game, whether it's related to the game itself or not. Finally, I use Discord to communicate with players and share important information about the game, including the X, N, and O's. These messages can be an effective way to provide feedback and address any issues or concerns that players may have, both during and after the game.

How will character creation work

The starting level for characters will be discussed during Session 0 and will depend on the campaign and its difficulty. As for character creation, I am flexible in terms of where and when players create their characters. Some players may prefer to create their characters beforehand, while others may want to create their characters during the game. If players choose to create their characters during the game, I will provide assistance and guidance as needed. If players choose to create their characters beforehand, I ask that they share their character sheets with me prior to the start of the game, so I can ensure that all characters are balanced and appropriate for the campaign. Players are welcome to create their characters using any official sourcebook, and I am open to discussing any homebrew or custom options on a case-by-case basis.
