About the adventure

**LGBTQ Friendly | Beginners Welcome | Non-native Speaker Friendly** An explorer recently returned from Eisslecross has been found dead - frozen solid. Not so strange, except that the roaring fire in his cabin must have heated it up to sauna level. Now the clock is ticking as more residents of Palebank Village are showing signs of the same affliction. How are the cases connected? Did Urgon bring back something dangerous from Eisslecross? Is there a cure? We really need some heros fast! Calling all Critters! Love Critical Role? Come play D&D 5e in Matt Mercer's Campaign setting, Exandria! This adventure starts in the Greying Wildlands, in a small outpost of Uthodurn - Palebank Village. All variations of heritage and affiliation described in the Explorer's Guide are welcome. New to D&D? Perfect. We'll workshop character creation and background together in the first session. If you're not familiar with Exandria, no problem. This adventure is set to introduce you to the world, and I love being your tour-guide! We're starting at first level, so the rules and mechanics start pretty simple. You'll find that as your character gains experience, you will too! English not your first language? No worries. I've taught ESL for years. I can support your communication with the other players. This is actually a great way to improve your conversation skills: have fun playing your favorite game and making new friends!

How to prepare

This game is online. In addition to a computer and internet connection, You will need: 1. a discord account (free). https://discord.com/ 2. a Roll 20 account (free). https://app.roll20.net/create-account

What I provide

On Roll 20, once you are enrolled in my campaign, you will have access to not only the basic rules, but also the content in my library. To date this includes: The Players Handbook, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, and the Explorer's Guide to Wildemount. I will create customized (virtual) tokens for player characters, for use on battlemaps. Maps, illustrations and digital handouts (as needed), will be accessed thru Roll 20. These will be available to players even outside of gametime.

Gameplay details

The pace of gameplay will depend largely on the players; questions and discussions regarding mechanics and roleplay are expected. During session 0, in addition to introductions, I will: 1. make sure everyone has their tech set up 2. cover any questions the table has regarding character creation and backstory 3. elicit table preferences as to the gritty <--> silly continuum 4. explain my "lines and veils," and add any players propose

How will character creation work

The first step of character creation will actually start with discussing our goals and preferences as players. Of course, we're here to have fun, but what does that mean for you? Silly, wacky situations? Conflicts between party members that need to be resolved? A band of brothers who stick together no matter what? Detailed lore? Cinematic fight scenes? Exploring a mindset that is wildly different from your own in real life? What makes a game fun for you? Next, we'll work together to create characters that will be fun to play, and make sense for our initial setting. We'll look at backgrounds and origins, and how the characters connect to each other. We'll talk about how all these details might influence role-playing, or even provide twists and turns for our story. I believe that the whole table working together on character creation will help us all have richer mental images of the characters, and provide tons of fodder for later role-playing. Players who join the campaign after session 0 will still have an opportunity to workshop their character "above the table" before the character actually enters the story. As GM, I will also work with the player regarding the how and why of their entrance.

Players can expect
