About the adventure

Welcome to Eberron! Magic is everywhere and life goes fast! Prepare for two-fisted pulp adventure in the most unique setting for 5e! Following a century of war, the continent of Khorvaire is ready for peace. But even in peace, there is conflict. New nations, secret organizations, ambitious agents, and Dragonmarked Houses all vie for control as Khorvaire enters a new age. All the while, ancient secrets and powerful artifacts lie in dungeons scattered throughout the continent, a testament to Khorvaire's long, forgotten history. The schema to a powerful weapon lies in the devastated wastes of the Mournland. A mad scramble for the schema begins and dangerous factions race to reach it. Who will get there first? Will it be House Cannith, the weapons dealers of the Last War who would profit from a new weapon on the market? Will it be the Emerald Claw, a terrorist network of necromancers dedicated to reigniting the Last War? Or will it be the Lord of Blades, a powerful Warforged warlord with a violent disdain for organic life? Survive the Mournland and retrieve the schema before it's too late! Shadows of the Last War is a 5e adaptation of the original Eberron adventure published in 2004. This adventure is designed to introduce players to the world of Eberron, so no previous Eberron experience is necessary. Once this adventure is finished, I will run the follow up adventure, Whispers of the Vampire's Blade. Players can continue their adventure in that campaign, if they wish. -- -- Number of Sessions: 6-10 Session Length: ~3 hours each

How to prepare

Please check your microphone a day before the first session. A Discord account is required. I encourage people to use a webcam, but it is absolutely not required. You do not need to make a FoundryVTT account. See character creation instructions for details on making your character ahead of Session 0. If you are unsure how Theater of the Mind combat will play out, please watch this video: https://youtu.be/eyo9F-aGuzs A short "Introduction to Eberron" handout will be provided to all players. If you have no experience with Eberron, please read it over before Session 0.

What I provide

Decades of experience, NPC character voices (not all of them good), visual references for major characters and locations, pace management systems to ensure the game keeps moving forward and remains exciting.

Gameplay details

GM Style: I like big, cinematic adventure. That means I narrate scenes to be as entertaining as possible. Rule of cool is rule 1 at my table. I'm the player's friend and I want them to tell the most fun, memorable story they can. I play flexible with the rules if it means making a more interesting scene. Game designer Sid Meier once said, "Games are a series of interesting decisions." I agree and my favorite thing to do is present players with interesting, often difficult decisions. Roleplaying Style: I love roleplaying and get into the character of my NPCs. I always try NPC voices (to varying levels of success) and physicality. This means that I keep my camera on during sessions so players can get the most out of the experience. Players are encouraged to do the same, but absolutely isn't required. Combat Style: I write screenplays and specialize in action stories. To me, action *is* storytelling and the story moments don't stop when players roll initiative. I focus on exciting action set-pieces; players are encouraged to use their environment creatively, and I will do the same. I narrate fight scenes to make them feel as exciting, urgent, and cinematic as possible. If you prefer high-tactics wargaming, I'm not the DM for you. If you enjoy modifying the rules of the game on the fly to make memorable action/character moments, this is the perfect fit. *Safety Statement:* This campaign involves the aftermath of war, so dead bodies will come up. Additionally, there are social dynamics designed to parallel the real-world oppression of racial/ethnic groups. This will not be a focus of the campaign, but will be present in a small capacity.

How will character creation work

Let me know about what character you want to make so we can discuss it. Once that's done, please make the character on D&D Beyond (link provided) before the first session and I will import it into FoundryVTT. Please use either standard array or point buy for your character's abilities. Classes/Sub-classes: Those from the Players Handbook, Eberron: Rising from the Last War, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, and Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. Races: Those from the Player's Handbook plus Warforged, Shifters, Changelings, Kalashtar, Genasi, Goblins, Hobgoblins, and Bugbear. Dragonmarked racial variants from Eberron: Rising from the Last War are allowed.
