About the adventure

Do you want to play a fresh take on Curse of Strahd, in a more gritty setting, with a mechanic that supports the gothic horror playstyle? Well, this campaigh is for you! Curse of the Demon Strahd is my original rewrite of the popular module, bringing it onto the mechanic of Shadow of the Demon Lord RPG, with some elements also drawn from Grim Hollow sourcebooks. It's sort of a revamp, with slight changes to the lore that make Barovia fit into the SotDL landscape, but without getting rid of the core aspects of this module, that immortalised it in the TTRPG scene. Familiarity with either Curse of Strahd or Shadow of the Demon Lord is not necessary! I will make sure to introduce you to the rules, and the world of Ravenloft. You can expect a great deal of gothic horror, some castlevania vibes, and a more grim-fantasy feel than what you might encounter when playing this adventure on the DnD ruleset. Hidden Kingdoms of the Fey people are scattered all amongst Rûl - each more fantastical than the other, each shrouded in its own mystery and myth. Amonghst these Kingdoms one of the most dreadfull is the Realm of Barovia, a land of sadness and misery, wherein even souls are trapped for eternity, clutched in the iron fist of its dreaded lord - Strahd von Zarovich. Petryfying stories of this place are told by the Vistani people, if you choose to join their campfire between the wagons. But be weary of their company. Some say, that the vistani are servants of Demon Strahd himself. And when you leave the campfire and wonder off into the evening mist... pray, that you'll see familiar lights on the other side of this heavy cloudbank. For if you hear the howling of werevolves, and see the sky devoid of starlight - you might be beyond saving.

How to prepare

Make sure to create a comfortable enviroment for yourself - nobody said you can't fight gothic vampires from beneath a cozy blanket! The intent of this particular campaign is for an intense, gritty and challenging experience, so you should keep that in mind. Apart from that make yourself some tea, or any beverage of choice, create you most gothic gothic persona, and get ready to face the dangers in the dark!

What I provide

I'll provide you with everything we need for play - character sheets, rules reference, handouts, battlemaps etc.

Gameplay details

In this campaign you can expect a large dose of gothic horror, some gritty survival mechanics, threatening combat, and engaging roleplay. I would like to implement my usual safety tools into this campaigh, but considering how dark and gritty it could get, I assure an extra level of caution and safety tools. So, we'll start with a thorough session 0, durin which we can discuss the anonymous questionaire I'll send to you beforehand. During play, apart from lines and veils established during session 0 we'll be using the red-yellow-green safety cards, and adhere the open door policy. After each session I'd propose a moment of debrief and aftercare, so we'll have an opportunity to rewind in each others company after the horrors we've endured together. The safer we make our table, the more challenging we can make the game!
