About the adventure

Under raging storm clouds, a lone figure stands silhouetted against the ancient walls of Castle Ravenloft. The vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich stares down a sheer cliff at the village below. A cold, bitter wind spins dead leaves about him, billowing his cape in the darkness. Lightning splits the clouds overhead, casting stark white light across him. Strahd turns to the sky, revealing the angular muscles of his face and hands. He has a look of power—and of madness. His once handsome face is contorted by a tragedy darker than the night itself. Rumbling thunder pounds the castle spires. The winds howling increases as Strahd turns his gaze back to the village. Far below, yet not beyond his ken, a party of adventurers has just entered his domain. Strahd’s face forms a twisted smile as his dark plan unfolds. He knew they were coming, and he knows why they have come all according to his plan. He, the master of Ravenloft, will attend to them. Another lightning flash rips through the darkness, its thunder echoing through the castle is towers. But Strahd is gone. Only the howling of the wind—or perhaps a lone wolf—fills the midnight air. The master of Ravenloft is having guests for dinner. And you are invited. Photo Credit to @AddictedDonut on twitter (also on twitch.tv/addicteddonut)

How to prepare

A microphone is required for discord, whether that is on a computer or a phone does not matter. However a computer is required to access the Roll20 which we will be playing on. If you are using the Beyond20 extension you will need to have a useable copy of your character sheet in Roll20 for me to be able to use in case of an emergency absence. Besides that if you have a character idea in mind that you want to use that's awesome! I will be making tokens during the session 0 for everyone, so while you're making your character if you have an image already or could find one that would make things go smoothly.

What I provide

The roll20 game itself will contain all the maps and handouts necessary for playing, as well as having the roll20 compendium shared and dynamic lighting.

Gameplay details

This game contains most of the standard themes that you would expect in gothic horror, but to be clear there will be talk of death, harm to children, themes of stalking, and torture. There will be a required safety checklist as well as going over sensitive topics in the session 0. If you have any issues with these themes then I do recommend if you're interested in this game completing the required checklist. It will give me a springboard to work with you to make the playing experience as enjoyable as possible.

How will character creation work

Character creation happens in the first session, for session 0 as I call it. That session will always be free no matter who is playing. We'll be making the characters as a group in Roll20 and doing a little round robin get to know you sort of thing so come with an interesting fact about yourself! For recommended source books, the Player's Handbook, Volo's Guide to Monsters, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes, and Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft are all good source material to pull from and mesh very well with the mode of play that the module sets for the players. If you would like to use a D&D source book for creating your character that I have not listed, I am open to discussing it with you to make the experience as enjoyable as possible.
