About the adventure

Take to the streets of Waterdeep as the newest member of the City Guard, an elite force of peacekeepers and crime solvers. Uncover nefarious schemes, bring down corrupt officials, infiltrate Waterdeep's criminal underbelly, and protect the citizens from dastardly criminals. Tap into your inner action hero or detective, and embark on an adventure of crime fighting that will take you all across the city of Waterdeep. If you like the idea of urban adventures with tactical combat, investigations, covert operations and mystery, this might just be the game for you. Each week brings a selection of new missions and situations to be resolved, while leaving room for overarching stories and personal progression. Like the TV-shows it draws inspiration from, this game aims to be thrilling, fast-paced and exciting, with lots of heart and opportunities for roleplay, moral dilemmas and sincere moments with your fellow team members. Over the course of the game, you'll also be able to upgrade and customize your headquarters and gear, and gain access to new bonuses, tools and vehicles as you advance through the ranks of the City Guard. Whether your idea of a good time is to exchange crossbow-fire with wanted assassins, trawl through sewers in pursuit of sahuagin smugglers, infiltrate opulent manors in search of necromantic artifacts, or engage in high-speed carriage-chases through the city streets, you'll find plenty to do in City Guards: Waterdeep (que theme song).

How to prepare

You need to prepare or bring the following: - A Roll20 account - A discord account, and discord downloaded. - A working microphone - A headset or speaker system that doesn't cause feedback or background noise - A web camera. I want my players to connect and see each other during the game, so this is required. Please also make sure you have at least a basic knowledge of the 5th edition D&D rules. This game might not be right for brand new players with no previous 5e experience. Finally, you should make sure to create your character and complete the character sheet BEFORE the session. Please include a brief backstory, as well as your character's motivation or reason for joining the City Guard. If you have a cool idea for your character, feel free to reach out to me in between sessions and we can work together to incorporate your backstory or set up seeds for an overarching story for your character.

What I provide

Everything needed for character creation and for running the game on Roll20. A microphone, a headset and a web camera. Links to my discord, the veils and lines document, and anything else needed to prepare for the game.

Gameplay details

The first session will be a session 0, where we go over lines & veils, expectations, and your player characters. Please note that this game mode contains a lot of original scenarios inspired by tv and film, both in NPCs, themes and adventures. For that reason, the triggers listed under content warnings are not exhaustive, and other themes and triggers may appear during play. You can always come to me before the game if you have questions or need more information about the content of an upcoming session. I have safety tools in place so that if you need a break, a fade to black, a skip-ahead or anything else, you can let me know directly and privately, and I'll make adjustments. Some things will always be off-limits, however, including things related to children's death/suffering, sexual assault, sexual situations and excessive torture/gore. You'll receive a link to my discord, the Roll20 game and the Lines and Veils document when you join the game. In Roll20, you have the ability to create your own character sheet, but I'm also available to help with setting up the sheet.

How will character creation work

Your character starts at 3rd level, and we'll level up via milestones. You are free to reroll a new character at any time, if you for instance want to try something else or give your character a dramatic send-off. The character sheets are hosted on Roll20, and you'll have access to all official character options from books published by WOTC when you make your character. You can use standard array or point buy to determine your ability scores. Note that all characters starts with a free feat, unless you select a character option that grants a feat (such as certain backgrounds or variant human). You will also receive a link before our session to a document with all the information about character creation.
