About the adventure

The past holds the key. The future hangs in the balance. London. Present day. The first sign is the clocks. Across the city, Big Ben falls silent. Watches stop ticking. Traffic lights freeze, and every screen flickers to black. Humans, elves, dwarves, tieflings and countless other folk from every walk of life stand frozen in the streets as time itself grinds to a halt. Then the ground begins to shake. Windows shatter along the Thames as cracks tear through the streets. Above the rooftops, the sky splits with golden light, revealing a colossal silhouette looming over the city. Buildings crumble beneath its shadow, and the world seems to age before your very eyes. This is no ordinary disaster. And as London descends into chaos, you begin to realise something impossible: whatever has come for this world may have been waiting for you. Welcome to The Mythic Saga: The Age of Heroes, a cinematic Dungeons & Dragons campaign inspired by Greek mythology, where ancient legends collide with the modern world. The gods of Olympus are real, monsters lurk beyond the edges of the familiar, and forgotten powers are beginning to stir. You’ll uncover mysteries, encounter legendary figures, explore ancient places and discover that the stories we’ve told for thousands of years may be hiding truths far stranger than anyone imagined. But the gods have secrets of their own, and not everyone who claims to be on your side can be trusted. Your choices will shape your journey, your relationships and potentially the fate of the world itself. This is a campaign for players who love becoming part of a story. Expect meaningful roleplay, memorable NPCs, character development, mysteries to unravel, dangerous encounters and cinematic moments worthy of an epic adventure. There will be opportunities for clever plans, dramatic speeches, unexpected alliances, heroic sacrifices and the occasional bit of chaos. Combat matters, but so do the decisions you make when your weapons are sheathed. Your character’s personality, ambitions and backstory are welcome at the table, and I want everyone to have moments where their character can shine. My DM style is collaborative, roleplay-focused and welcoming. I use character voices, embrace the Rule of Cool and encourage creative solutions over simply following a script. Whether you’re a seasoned adventurer or completely new to D&D, you’re welcome here. You don’t need to know Greek mythology or memorise every rule; we’ll discover the world together. The campaign begins at Level 1, with your characters growing into heroes as the stakes rise. The adventure is planned to reach around Level 12, with the possibility of continuing further. The legends have been written. The truth remains hidden. Your story starts here. Will you answer the call?

About me

I’m an experienced tabletop RPG player with 7 years of experience, including 3 years as a Dungeon Master. I’ve played D&D 5e, The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying, Daggerheart, and Pathfinder. As a DM, I’m all about roleplay, immersive storytelling, and creating worlds that feel alive. I love building rich settings and giving players the freedom to explore them their own way. My games tend to embrace open-world and sandbox play, where your choices can genuinely shape the story and the world around you. For me, the best part of being a DM is watching players create their own stories, make unexpected choices, and become invested in the world we’re building together.

Creating your character

⚡ CHARACTER CREATION: THE AGE OF HEROES Welcome, heroes! Your story begins in modern day London, where humans and fantasy races live side by side. Something is coming that threatens more than your city. The fate of the entire planet may soon rest in the hands of a few unlikely heroes. 🧙 1. YOUR CHARACTER Your character should be young, ideally aged 18–23. You’re at the beginning of your journey, with plenty of room to grow into the hero you’re destined to become. Choose any official D&D 5e (2014) race/species and class. Humans, elves, dwarves, tieflings, dragonborn, goliaths and many others are welcome! Think about your life before the adventure. Are you a student, athlete, musician, troublemaker, aspiring hero or simply trying to find your place in the world? You don’t need to be powerful or experienced. You might have no idea what you’re capable of yet. 🌍 2. WHY SAVE THE WORLD? Your character needs a reason to care about the fate of the planet and its people. Perhaps you want to protect your family, save someone you love, make the world better, prove yourself or refuse to stand by while everything falls apart. You don’t have to be a perfect hero. You just need something worth fighting for. ⚡ 3. WHICH GREEK GOD CALLS TO YOU? Explore the Greek pantheon and consider which god or goddess you’d most like to have as your divine parent. Would you choose Zeus, Athena, Poseidon, Apollo, Ares, Hermes, Hades or perhaps a lesser-known deity? Think about how their powers, personality and mythology might connect with your character. You don’t need to choose based on your class. A child of Ares doesn’t have to be a fighter, and a child of Athena doesn’t have to be a wizard! Please privately share your top three choices with me. Your final divine parentage will be discussed with me and may remain a surprise for the campaign. Don’t reveal your choices to the other players just yet! 🎭 4. YOUR BACKSTORY Write 1–3 paragraphs covering: * Who you are and what your life in modern London looks like. * Your personality, strengths and flaws. * Someone or something you deeply care about. * Why you’d risk your life to save the world. * Any strange dreams, unusual experiences or unanswered questions. Leave room for surprises! You don’t need to know how your character connects to Greek mythology yet. 📊 5. CHARACTER RULES * Starting level: 1 * Ruleset: D&D 5e (2014) * Ability scores: Standard Array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8). * Content: Official material unless approved by me. * Character sheet: D&D Beyond or another approved sheet. 🤝 6. LET’S TELL A LEGEND This is a collaborative, roleplay-focused campaign full of character development, meaningful choices, mystery and epic adventure. You don’t need experience or acting skills. Bring your imagination, support your fellow players and be ready to discover who your character might become. You’re young. You’re untested. And the world has no idea what’s coming.

✅ 6. SUBMISSION CHECKLIST Before our first session, please make sure you have: * Created a Level 1 character using the 2014 rules. * Chosen your race, class, background and starting equipment. * Completed your character sheet, including ability scores, skills, spells (if applicable) and hit points. * Written a 1–3 paragraph backstory. * Decided what motivates your character to help save the world. * Privately sent me your top three choices for your divine parent. * Shared your completed character sheet and backstory with me for approval. * Checked that your character has a reason to cooperate with the other heroes. Don’t worry if you are not sure, we can work through this together.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

How to Prepare for the Adventure Before we begin our journey through Greek mythology, please complete the following steps so you’re ready to join the game! 1. Create Your Character * Create a free account on D&D Beyond. * Build your character using the D&D 5e (2014 ruleset). * Your character starts at Level 3. * We’ll roll ability scores together during Session 0. * Think about your character’s backstory, motivations and why they might want to earn the favour of the gods or gain acceptance into Olympus. Don’t worry about having everything perfect before Session 0. I’m happy to help you build your character! 2. Join the Discord Server * Join the campaign’s Discord server using the invite link provided after booking. * Make sure Discord is installed and working on your computer or phone. * Check that your microphone and headphones work before the session. * We’ll use Discord for voice chat, campaign communication and sharing important information. 3. Add Backstory Hooks Your backstory is more than just your character’s history — it gives me ideas to bring your personal story to life during the campaign! When writing your backstory, consider including a few hooks, secrets or unresolved events that I can use throughout the adventure. For example: * Important people: A missing family member, a former mentor, a rival or someone you owe a debt to. * Unanswered questions: A mysterious event from your past, a strange prophecy or a secret about your family. * Personal goals: A vow to a god, a desire for revenge, a quest for recognition or a dream of earning a place among the legends of Olympus. * Enemies and rivals: Someone who wants you to fail, a competing hero or a person from your past who may return. * Secrets: Something your character hides from the world, or perhaps something they don’t yet know about themselves. You don’t need to explain every mystery or write a huge backstory. A few interesting details are enough! Important: These are ideas for me to develop, not promises that every hook will appear in the campaign. We’ll work together to make sure your backstory fits the world and gives your character opportunities to grow. 4. Get Ready to Play * A stable internet connection and a computer or laptop are recommended. * Have your D&D Beyond character sheet ready. * Make sure you can access Discord and communicate clearly. * Bring your imagination, enthusiasm and willingness to work together as a party! 5. Prepare for Session 0 Think about the kind of hero you’d enjoy playing. You don’t need to know Greek mythology or all the D&D rules beforehand. New players are welcome! We’ll use Session 0 to finalise characters, discuss expectations, establish party connections and cover any questions before the adventure begins. Your legend starts here. The gods are watching — are you ready to earn their favour?

What JoeB brings to the table

What You Can Expect From Me as Your DM My goal is to create an immersive, memorable adventure where you feel like the hero of your own Greek myth. Inspired by the storytelling of Critical Role, expect a campaign full of memorable characters, divine intrigue, legendary monsters, unexpected twists and choices that genuinely matter. 🎭 Roleplay & Storytelling I love bringing the world to life through character voices, memorable NPCs, humour and emotional moments. Whether you’re negotiating with a king, arguing with a god or sharing a quiet moment around the campfire, your character’s personality and choices matter. ⚡ Your Choices Shape the Story This is a collaborative story, not a predetermined script. Your decisions will influence the world, relationships and direction of the adventure. Expect mysteries to uncover, secrets to discover and consequences that may come back to haunt you! ⚔️ Combat & Adventure Expect exciting battles against mythical creatures, dangerous enemies and legendary foes. Combat will have meaningful stakes, but not every encounter needs to end in a fight. Clever plans, creative thinking and roleplay can be just as effective as drawing your weapon. 🎲 The Rule of Cool I use the official D&D rules as our foundation, but I also embrace the Rule of Cool. If you come up with a creative, cinematic idea that makes the story more exciting, I’ll do my best to make it happen where it makes sense. I aim for a balance between fair rulings, consistent rules and those unforgettable moments that become campaign legends. 🏛️ A World Inspired by Greek Mythology Meet gods, encounter legendary heroes, explore ancient ruins and face creatures drawn from Greek mythology. The gods are powerful, proud and far from perfect. Earning their favour may bring incredible rewards, but attracting their attention can be dangerous too! 🤝 A Welcoming Table New players and experienced adventurers are equally welcome. I’ll help you learn the rules, support your character ideas and make sure everyone has opportunities to shine. I value teamwork, respect, creativity and players who want to contribute to the shared story. We’ll also discuss boundaries and expectations during Session 0 to help everyone feel comfortable at the table. 🌟 Your Character Matters I want your backstory, ambitions, flaws and relationships to become part of the adventure. If you give me interesting story hooks, I’ll look for opportunities to weave them into the campaign. Your character isn’t just travelling through a world of legends — they have the chance to become one. Above all, expect an adventure filled with roleplay, mystery, humour, danger, divine drama and heroic moments. The gods have their stories. The monsters have their legends. It’s time for a new generation of heroes to make their mark on Olympus. Will the gods remember your name?

Homebrew rules

Here’s a player-facing homebrew rules section tailored to your Greek mythology campaign, keeping your Rule of Cool, roleplay-heavy DM style while making it clear that the official 2014 rules remain the foundation. Homebrew Rules — The Age of Heroes We will primarily use the official D&D 5e (2014 ruleset), with a few homebrew rules to make the game more cinematic, rewarding and fitting for a world of gods, monsters and legendary heroes. 🎲 1. The Rule of Cool Creative ideas and cinematic moments are encouraged! If you come up with something exciting that isn’t explicitly covered by the rules, I’ll consider a fair ruling that keeps the game moving and makes the moment memorable. The rules are our foundation, not a barrier to fun. ❤️ 2. Healing Potions * Bonus Action: Drink a healing potion and roll its healing dice as normal. * Action: Drink a healing potion and regain the maximum possible healing from its dice. This gives you a choice between healing quickly in combat or taking the time to get the most out of your potion. ⚔️ 3. Critical Hits When you score a critical hit, you deal maximum damage on the attack’s normal damage dice, then roll the additional critical damage dice as normal. This makes critical hits feel powerful and heroic! ⭐ 4. Hero Points Exceptional roleplay, creative thinking and memorable character moments may earn you a Hero Point at the DM’s discretion. You can spend a Hero Point to either: * Gain advantage on a skill check. * Add +5 to a roll. Use them wisely — a well-timed Hero Point could make the difference between failure and becoming a legend! 🏛️ 5. Divine Influence The gods are real, powerful and deeply involved in the world. Your choices, deeds and relationships with them may influence how they perceive you. Seeking divine favour can open doors, but angering a deity may have consequences. Divine blessings, supernatural gifts and other special rewards may be introduced as the story develops. These will be awarded through the campaign rather than assumed at character creation. 📜 6. Rulings & Fair Play I’ll aim to make consistent and fair rulings. If we encounter an unfamiliar situation, I’ll make a ruling to keep the game moving and check the rules afterwards if needed. The goal is to ensure everyone gets their moment to shine without slowing the adventure down. The golden rule: We’re here to tell an incredible story together. Bring creative ideas, embrace your character and help make this a legend worthy of Olympus! One thing worth clarifying before publishing: the healing potion and critical hit rules are established homebrew rules from your DM style, while Divine Influence is a campaign-specific expectation rather than a fully defined mechanical rule. That keeps players informed without promising specific divine powers or bonuses.

How JoeB creates a safe table

Player Safety & Comfort My priority is making sure everyone feels welcome, respected and comfortable at the table. The Mythic Saga explores Greek mythology, which can include themes of death, betrayal, horror, divine punishment and difficult moral choices. These themes should make the adventure exciting, never uncomfortable for the sake of it. 🛡️ Lines & Veils Before the campaign begins, I’ll share a Lines and Veils document for everyone to complete. * Lines are subjects we won’t include in the game. * Veils are subjects that may exist in the story but will happen off-screen or be handled without explicit detail. Everyone can privately share their boundaries, and you never have to explain why something makes you uncomfortable. I’ll respect these boundaries and adjust the campaign accordingly. 🤝 Session 0 Before we begin our adventure, we’ll have a Session 0 to discuss: * Player expectations, preferred playstyles and what everyone wants from the campaign. * Character creation, party connections and how we’ll work together as a group. * Potential themes, including mythology, combat, death, supernatural horror and interactions with the gods. * Lines, Veils and any additional boundaries players wish to establish. * Table etiquette, respectful communication and how to handle disagreements. * How to pause or redirect a scene if something becomes uncomfortable. ✋ During the Game Your comfort matters more than any plot twist. If a scene makes you uncomfortable, you can speak up, message me privately or ask to pause without needing to justify yourself. We can skip, fade out or change the scene immediately. You can also update your boundaries at any point during the campaign. Consent isn’t a one-time conversation, and nobody will be pressured to participate in content they’re uncomfortable with. 💬 Aftercare & Check-Ins Some sessions may involve intense emotional scenes, difficult choices or dramatic character moments. After particularly heavy sessions, I’ll make time for a brief check-in so everyone can step out of character, discuss how they’re feeling and decompress. You’re always welcome to message me privately after a session if something didn’t sit right or you’d like to talk about an experience at the table. Feedback is encouraged, and I’ll take concerns seriously without judgement. ❤️ Respect Comes First We’re here to have fun, tell an incredible story and create memories together. Everyone deserves to feel safe, included and able to enjoy the adventure. No game, character or storyline is more important than the people playing it.
