The Road to Redspring
The yearly livestock drive in Cormyr is great for local markets. Though protecting herds is a boring job for an adventurer. Or, so you'd think.

About the adventure
In the quiet village of Eveningstar, just north of the King's Forest in the Kingdom of Cormyr, there is no shortage of young hopeful adventurers. Everyone dreams of leaving their mark, conquering the wild like the famed Purple Dragon Knights. These ambitions can make you into legend, or send you to an early grave. Though the renown of a heroic life is a lure that seems to blur one's sense of self preservation. To many the pursuit of a heroes fame is worth the risk. The possibilities are an addiction. For many, this is dangerous naivety that ends in tragedy. But for some, this is destiny, and history will in fact remember their names. But a hero's beginning is often anything but glamorous. Glory it seems is a fickle thing. It never comes without sacrifice. To those growing up inside the Suzailian protected walls of a Cormyrian province, safety can breed legends, or ignorant delusions of grandeur. Shelter shields the body and the mind. Outside of those protected walls, there are dangers that ambition can not possibly foresee. Your Story Begins... You are close childhood friends who grew up together in Eveningstar, bound by a shared pact to one day conquer the wild. For years, you have watched the horizon and waited. Now, the day has finally arrived. Each of you has reached the lawful age of adulthood under Cormyrian law, officially permitted to take up arms, sign contracts, and seek your fortune. Armed with your first sets of armor and a thirst for glory, your party marches straight toward the village quest board to claim your very first contract. Your shared excitement radiates from your party as you stroll confidently through Eveningstar's roads, familiar faces watching you pass with curiosity. The open road is calling, and your names are waiting to be written into history. Will this be the birth of a legendary party, or will you become another cautionary tale? Grab your gear, and let’s find out.

About me
Hello!! My name is Andy and I have been immersed in the Dungeons & Dragons world since I was around 15-years-old. I started being a Dungeon Master for my group of friends in my early 20's and let’s just say I was hooked!! I am a 48-year-old working dad now and I still love Dungeons & Dragons just as much as I did back then, perhaps even more to be honest. I am extremely excited to run games on this platform, meet new people, and most importantly, HAVE FUN DOING IT! In addition to being an experienced Dungeon Master, I am also a content creator on DMs Guild where I have designed and written several of my own products which have been downloaded over a thousand times! I am very detail oriented, a great writer and map maker, and I am very good at making you use your brains! Ultimately the game of Dungeons and Dragons should be a fun experience, and I will always do everything I can to ensure that you enjoy the story, the world, and the characters along the way. My campaigns are also good for a few good laughs as well. I believe adding a little comedy to my campaigns to be an absolute must. I mean life is short, if you’re not laughing you’re not doing it right. I am new to this platform, but I hope you will come and experience the game with me. I have been working extremely hard on "The Black Blood Tide", and it is going to be an amazing campaign. I will be waiting!!

Creating your character
For this one shot we will have a separate session zero. I want to make sure that all 3 hours are playable since this is a one-shot adventure. We will be using Roll20 for everything. Creating characters, actual gameplay, and communication. I do not believe in using multiple platforms open on your screen when Roll20 can do it all in one window. I like simplicity and will take it over complexity any day of the week. I have close to 200 hours in Roll20 just learning the platform and I am very proficient with it. I have some premade characters if you would like to use them, or we can easily create one for you. All characters will be level one and created using the 2024 D&D 5e rules. This one shot is directly linked to my long form campaign, 'The Black Blood Tide.' As such if you are interested at the end of this one shot, your character will be welcome to continue their journey into that campaign. While this 'one shot' is free, I do ask that you please leave an honest review after we finish. You will be providing me a great service in allowing me to get some traction as a DM on StartPlaying. It is difficult to get noticed among 5000 game masters and it would be greatly appreciated. Message me if you are interested in this one shot and we will get right to making your character and getting you set up.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
All you need to do is create a free account on Roll20 and book a seat for this one-shot here on StartPlaying. Then we will set up a time for our session 0, and I will invite you to Roll20 where we will create your character, discuss table etiquette and many other things.
What The Dungeon Scribe brings to the table
For my campaigns I will use ambient background music. I do stick to the rules as much as possible, however I welcome the rule of cool at my table as well. I also must insist that we all be respectful of eachother, be engaeged in the story and the game, and above all have a good time. This is a fun game, but the game's experience hinges on many things, but mostly the interaction and behavior of those sitting at the table. If you are new to the game you are welcome. In fact, I actually greatly enjoy newer players. I will have beautiful maps, interesting NPCs, and a great story.
Homebrew rules
There are some rules that I choose not to bring to my tables. I wll discuss these in greater detail during our session zero, but in short, i do not follow the rules of encumbrance. You do not need to keep track of the weight of every thing your character is carrying. That is a serious game dragger! But at the same time if you say you want to carry a chest with you on your quest, we will have to have a logical restriction. I also have some tweaks for short and long rests. If anything else comes up during our game and we all agree, other rules can be adjusted.

Safety
How The Dungeon Scribe creates a safe table
During our game I will be using safety tools to ensure that players are comfortable with the content. The X,N, and O cards are the most common tools we will discuss and use during the game. I also use the OPEN DOOR tool that allows anyone to step away from the table for a break at any time if you feel you need to distance yourself from a scene or the direction that the content is going. Also if you ever feel like the game content is headed towards a theme you are not comfortable with, you can type an 'N' into the chat. This lets me know that you are uncomfortable before it gets to the point where the OPEN DOOR tool will be needed. I will always take the emotional comfort of my players very seriously. With that being said please make sure to check the content warning tags before booking a seat.
