About the adventure

Vagabond is a fast paced RPG that is described as "Compact" and "Chewy", meaning it gives you a good spread of things to dive into without requiring an extensive rule set. With inspirations from Basic D&D, Dragonbane, and Mork Borg, this game is quick and punchy with enough room to breath, should you choose to take it. Vagabond is best suited for one-shots, either on their own, or interconnected through a downtime narrative. Best for dungeon crawling and survival gameplay! The stand-outs of this system are it's roll over mechanics and it's non-Vancian magic. Roll Over: In place of a singular number to beat in order to achieve an goal/objective, every player has their own target number to roll depending on their training with that skill, so a fighter may need to roll a much higher number for success to pick a lock than a rogue would. Magic: All spells are based on mana points that the individual caster has access to and can be customize for each casting depending on if you want to cause a specific effect, deal damage, or both, a near limitless capacity for spell casting combinations!

About me

Hello! I'm Brent, I'm located in the Pacific NW United States, and I would be honored to be your new GM. I've been playing TTRPGs for 10 years now (mainly D&D) and GMing for a few years. I've ran Dungeons and Dragons 5e, The One Ring 2e, the Alien RPG 1e, Monster of the Week, Mork Borg, Blood on the Lens, and most recently Dragonbane. In the future I'd love to run Coriolis, Root, and Symbaroum/Ruins of Symbaroum. I'm also open to any other kinds of TTRPGs! LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC friendly. I've only got two rules: be kind, and have fun!

Character creation

Creating your character

I will be providing pre-generated characters, but if you'd like to create your own, we can walk through character creation together!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A Mic is necessary but a webcam isn't! The only program you'll need access to is Discord, other than that, I just recommend a solid internet connection. I'll be providing access to a private Discord server and setting up a server on The Forge (Foundry server host) which you'll need a free account to access. All other preparation for the game/system will happen at the start of the session.

What Brent W brings to the table

I will be providing a link to FoundryVTT where I host a server. This will include maps, tokens, and digital content. I'll also send you an invite to a private Discord Server where we will use voice and text chat, and video if you'd like! All you need is an internet capable device (desktop/laptop preferred, but a tablet will work as well, smart phones are more difficult) and a discord account! I stick to the rules as close as possible, but everyone get's stuff wrong occasionally, so if something comes up, let's look at it together!

Safety

How Brent W creates a safe table

Luxton Technique - Session 0 will include a brief discussion of triggers and topic/subject matter that are off limits. This is a time for players to bring up any content that they'd like to avoid, no questions asked. If there's a potential trigger that might be too prevalent within the story, this will be the time to discuss! X - I like to handle X cards two different ways; digital and physical. Players are welcome to choose between the two whichever works best for them. Have a note card or piece of paper with an X drawn on it, then whenever you need, just hold that up to your camera. Alternatively, I like to keep an eye on the chat so if a physical card isn't your thing, or you prefer to stay off camera, just type "X" into the chat, and we can pause gameplay to work through the situation. Open Door and Breaks - At any point during the game, please feel free to momentarily step away from the game to de-stress, grab a drink/snack, use the restroom, or just stretch! On that same note, if something has come up in the game that might not be X worthy, but still feels like it warrants discussion, we can pause gameplay at any point to talk. Debriefing and Stars And Wishes - At the end of each session I like to hold a few minutes to discuss what went well and what could be better! Stars and Wishes are great for this, and debriefing fills in the gaps that Stars and Wishes might not cover. If you'd like, I can also create an anonymous survey to fill out to leave feedback about sessions going forward! The game is only good if we are ALL having fun, so if even one person feels like they want to talk about something, let's take care of it as soon as possible.
