About the adventure

This is a game of swords, black powder, the high seas, debauchery, but most important, RUM! In Pirate Borg you'll play, none other than, a pirate! Maybe you used to be a merchant, a cook, a sailor, or maybe piracy has always been your calling, now you and your crew find yourselves in the islands of the New World, just in time for the world to end. Sink enemy vessels, uncover buried treasure, prepare to board, and for the love of the sea, make sure the rum don't run out!

About me

Hello! I'm Brent, I'm located in the Pacific NW United States, and I would be honored to be your new GM. I've been playing TTRPGs for 10 years now (mainly D&D) and GMing for a few years. I've ran Dungeons and Dragons 5e, The One Ring 2e, the Alien RPG 1e, Monster of the Week, Mork Borg, Blood on the Lens, and most recently Dragonbane. In the future I'd love to run Coriolis, Root, and Symbaroum/Ruins of Symbaroum. I'm also open to any other kinds of TTRPGs! LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC friendly. I've only got two rules: be kind, and have fun!

Character creation

Creating your character

Brent W will provide pre-made character sheets for you to choose from after you sign up or at the start of the game.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A Mic is necessary but a webcam isn't! You'll need access to a Discord account (free) and an account on https://forge-vtt.com (also free), other than that, I just recommend a solid internet connection.

What Brent W brings to the table

I will be providing a link to FoundryVTT where I host a server. This will include maps, tokens, and digital content. I'll also send you an invite to a private Discord Server where we will use voice and text chat, and video if you'd like! All you need is an internet capable device (desktop/laptop preferred, but a tablet will work as well, smart phones are more difficult) and a discord account! I like to use ambient music and the occasional character voice, and include moderately tactical combat. I try to stick to the rules as much as I can, but at the end of the day, the Rule of Cool takes preference so long as it's not breaking anything. If there's a rule in the game that allows for what you're trying to accomplish, let's try sticking to that until it breaks, but if not, let's do whatever feels fun.

Safety

How Brent W creates a safe table

Luxton Technique - This will include a brief discussion of triggers and topic/subject matter that are off limits. This is a time for players to bring up any content that they'd like to avoid, no questions asked. If there's a potential trigger that might be too prevalent within the story, this will be the time to discuss! X - I like to handle X cards two different ways; digital and physical. Players are welcome to choose between the two whichever works best for them. Have a note card or piece of paper with an X drawn on it, then whenever you need, just hold that up to your camera. Alternatively, I like to keep an eye on the chat so if a physical card isn't your thing, or you prefer to stay off camera, just type "X" into the chat, and we can pause gameplay to work through the situation. Open Door and Breaks - At any point during the game, please feel free to momentarily step away from the game to de-stress, grab a drink/snack, use the restroom, or just stretch! On that same note, if something has come up in the game that might not be X worthy, but still feels like it warrants discussion, we can pause gameplay at any point to talk. Debriefing and Stars And Wishes - At the end of each session I like to hold a few minutes to discuss what went well and what could be better! Stars and Wishes are great for this, and debriefing fills in the gaps that Stars and Wishes might not cover. If you'd like, I can also create an anonymous survey to fill out to leave feedback about sessions going forward! The game is only good if we are ALL having fun, so if even one person feels like they want to talk about something, let's take care of it as soon as possible. Deck of Player Safety
