About the adventure

The port town of Shael has always been good to you: here, grand ships of the line often rest on the way along the Golden Route. You've lived your whole life here: listening to the tales of visiting sailors, watching people of every stripe and walk of life cross the same roads you know so well. Within these walls, you have known safety. And through those ports, you have seen the world. And you have never had to leave. And all that is about to change. When a pack of mysterious creatures attack your home, you are one of the only people who can save it. In this introduction to D&D, you will take part in but the opening of a grand adventure: one that will lead you down the path of danger and to the greatest heights of heroics. Learn how to explore dark and mysterious dungeons, defeat cunning traps, and overcome vile adversaries with brain and brawn. Whether you are a valiant fighter, a devout cleric, a wise wizard or a cunning rogue; your story is only beginning.

About me

A humble player of rpgs who has been behind and in front of the screen consistently for over two decades, I am a lover of all editions of D&D, Pathfinder, Shadowrun and WoD. Experience in running 3.5, 4th and 5th edition D&D, Shadowrun, various WoD and CoD campaigns and games both independent and obscure. My games run from simple, heartfelt adventures to deep social dramas and good old-fashioned dungeon diving!

Character creation

Creating your character

Chris will provide pre-made character sheets for you to choose from after you sign up or at the start of the game.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players should have internet access, computers, microphones and accounts on Discord and Roll20.

What The Humble Chris brings to the table

Chris will provide character sheets, a Discord for us to use Voice Chat, and Roll20 to play the game. As for myself, I bring twenty years of Game Mastering experience to the table. My focus as a Storyteller is to serve as your guide: to set the stage and lead you down the rabbit holes. The style I have honed is very player-forward: you are the ones commanding the action. There will be times when I ask how your character is feeling: to play Devil's Advocate and explore the thoughts and emotions behind your character's decisions and the anticipation they feel in the moment of the hunt. My games are LGBTQIA+ friendly, and I foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone should feel free to be themselves.

Safety

How The Humble Chris creates a safe table

Players will be provided a link to a Lines and Veils pdf, which is to be filled out and submitted prior to Session Zero. During Session Zero, the players and I will go over their established Lines and Veils, as well as discuss other subjects which may be taboo which weren't present on the sheet or were thought of later. During our sessions, we will take a break halfway through so that I may touch base with the players and make sure they are still comfortable and having fun. Whenever there is a heavy scene or someone asks for a scene to stop, we will also employ these breaks to make sure everyone is okay. Each session will also end with a brief discussion on what the players liked, how they feel the game is going, and any concerns they would like to address. My DMs will also be open for players to discuss their concerns in confidence. Over the course of play, players will be asked to submit their X, N and O's to me through DM to maintain their confidentiality.
