About the adventure
Ten Candles is a game about inner darkness, and loss. But it's also a game about hope. This is a story that we will craft together. This is not a Survival horror game, but a Dark horror game. The difference is that everyone will die by the end of this story... You will step into the role of a survivor, living out their last hours in this world as they try to stay one step ahead of an all-consuming, ever-present horror in the darkness. Your only sanctuary is the light, and it will not last forever. While you won't survive, you should play as though survival is possible. Each session will tell a different story, with another group of survivors trying to outpace another threat. Along the way, you will have the chance to discover secret information about 'Them' and gain a chance to leave your mark on this world, before all lights inevitably go out. **Note**: Ten Candles is a rules-light ttrpg, and very beginner-friendly. If you are new to this game, I will go over the rules with everyone at the start so we are all on the same page.

Meet the Game Master
About me
I first learned about TTRPGs some time after D&D 3.5e had come out, so I had a lot of catching up to do at the time. However, as soon as I was exposed to the possibilities, the dam was broken and I was hooked. I've been in and out of groups since then, but when the pandemic began, I had nothing but extra time to play tabletop games. I started homebrewing my own content, running my own games, and making my own maps. I'm not satisfied with playing tropes or going with what's easiest. As a fantasy fiction writer, I want to tell stories that are engaging, breathtaking, and continue to surprise you at every turn. I like to keep things cohesive, but always allow my players to make their own choices, and face the consequences that may or may not follow. The story we tell together should feel like the result of the choices you make together. That's the game I want to create for you. I'm pretty flexible when it comes to the style and length of the adventure you'd like to play. From intense one-shots to elaborate campaigns spanning 2 years. I can run official modules, or invite your group to the setting of my world, Inaelia.

Creating your character
All characters are created at the start of the session and can be done with little to no prep from the player. It involves choosing adjectives and verbs to describe a person, followed by a brief, 2-sentence description of who you will be playing. There will be a more thorough explanation in-game, but it generally takes no more than 5-10 minutes to have a character ready.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
A microphone will be needed as this game is played primarily by voice. A webcam is not needed, but can be used if desired. Players will also need to have a Discord account, and an account to Forge, where the VTT is hosted. Both of which are free, and require only basic information to create. I will be available to assist if needed.
What RollPlayer1 brings to the table
I have a VTT ready with all of the illustrated candles and editable cards ready for you to use. You really only need to bring yourself!

Safety
How RollPlayer1 creates a safe table
Each session is played as a one-shot, and every game will, essentially, be different. Because of this, it is difficult to provide adequate warnings. However, themes will always be given at the start, and players are free to voice any concerns, as well as use the available safety tools provided. There will be a button available in the VTT that will allow you to use an X-card instantly and keeps the user anonymous. Should you need it, I will also be available after the session to talk about anything that may have been especially frightening or jarring.
