About the adventure
This story does not yet have an ending. It is the tale of Pestilence: a traitorous lesser god who broke free from his prison in Heall. You, the denizens of the Gravediggers’ Guild, are duty-bound to seek out this heathenous creature and put an end to his desires of dominion over the Plaguescape. Each adventure in the campaign of Lord Have Mercy Upon Us will take you across an embittered, dangerous landscape; seeking treasures, defeating monstrous creatures, and hunting for clues to set you on the path towards Father Plague. Every roll of the dice may take you closer to victory or pull you further into despair. On this day, may the Lord have mercy upon us. ********** Doomsong is a D6 system where challenging choices can result in virtuous success or irreparable injury, peril, and character suffering. It’s unrelenting in its open, sandbox world; the Plaguescape – our playground for this adventure – has boundaries but everything within is yours to explore in any order you choose. The Doomsong story is filled with themes of dark medieval religions, low-magic fantasy and strong historically-influenced horror. ********** This game is PLAY BY POST. We have our own space on my Discord server where the game will play out, where our stories will be told, and where our characters will live (and probably die!). The setup is PERFECT for people who don't have time to commit to long weekly games online (or in person) yet want to engage with narrative storytelling and RPG action. It's a low-pressure environment where you can get stuck in at your own pace. As GM I will - * Make c. 3 'major story posts' each week to move the game ahead * Reply to messages within 24hrs wherever possible * Hold space for you to explore, play, and have fun Where needed I will move the game forward if more than 75% of the party have commented. I will not make story-critical decisions for you; use consumable items; or make a move to enter you into a combat situation. That would be VERY unfair of me! You as a player will - * Engage in the game on your own time making min. 3 posts each week (even if that post is "I throw a rock at the wycce!") * Use the post prompts and structures to help keep our game consistent * Abide by the code of conduct; lines, veils, and boundaries of play ********** Please note this is an AI-free game. I support the makers of Doomsong and the creative, collaborative nature of tabletop gaming. I will not use AI to write or post my game content and I expect that my players do the same. I will not read 15-page GPT-created player bios (who even has time for that?) and may delete clearly-AI-generate content from our game space should it be posted.

Meet the Game Master
About me
Hey there! I'm an all-inclusive DM, play enthusiast and group facilitator. I run games that are intended as great stories; over single sessions or multi-month campaigns these tales are told through the eyes of my players. Since TTRPGs are hobby games and meant to be FUN above all else I design everything I run with fun being something everyone can have (I hope) on their terms. For example, I'll make sure that player types are well matched and that everyone knows what kind of content they're getting themselves into. I'd don't limit myself to one system or play style. I love D&D but am just as happy running a deep, dark tale using Doomsong or getting stuck into a narrative and role play-first world with Kids on Bikes. Each format has its merits and shortcomings which I try to bend as far as possible to keep fun-focus first! At the table we're rules-light most of the time; life is too short for number-crunching and "But the book says..." - where the rule of cool will do, the rule of cool *will* do. Players looking for an easy way in to a game or just want to meet similar-minded people, I am the DM for you.

Creating your character
To create your character you may use either the Doomsong sourcebooks or the (very handy) tool hosted on CaesarInk’s website; it walks you through the process. You may do it alone and bring a character or, if you wish, you can join me for a collaborative session. I will be holding a twice-monthly ‘Session Zero’ where new players can come together and we’ll talk through character creation together. During these Session Zeroes I will explain the basics of guild life, the overarching mechanics of Doomsong, and get you up to speed for your first adventure.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
To get ready to play Doomsong with me, it would be helpful for you to: 🗓️ Block out your calendar! Don’t let someone put something over your leisure time; this is wellbeing for you. 🖥️ Check out the game on CaesarInk’s website; get a feel for what you’re about to step into! 💻 Have a look at the Character Creation tool; I will send a link for this. 🎙️ Join my Discord server where games will be hosted. Our campaign will have private text and voice channels where we can talk and play. 📋 Review the safe space rules and complete the RPG consent checklist so I get a better feel for who is playing and how I can tailor our content to keep the space safe. If you have questions, please email me or talk to me on Discord. I am all ears!
What Tom Jepson brings to the table
Aside from a character sheet (which we will likely create together) I will bring everything else you will need to play in the world of Doomsong. There will be links to shared ‘diaries’, our Doomsong calendar, a guild sheet, plus maps and adventure logs. I offer a safe, welcoming, non-judgemental atmosphere where players like you and I can come together to enjoy the hobby we’ve invested ourselves in. It’s really important that everyone feels they can show up however they are on the day and still have fun.
Homebrew rules
I may use content outside of the core Doomsong rulebook and Lord Have Mercy Upon Us campaign book. Caesar Ink continually update the world of Painyme with new, weird, wonderful creatures and rulings: I'd love to include some of this new content as we play (since it keeps it fresh for EVERYONE, even if you've play LHMUU before).

How Tom Jepson creates a safe table
Before we play I will share an RPG Consent checklist which I would like every player to complete. It’s helpful for me to know who is playing, what you can and cannot work with, and how I can make the game space comfortable. At the beginning of a session I will cover my expectations of players, what they can expect from me, and how we keep our games safe and inclusive for everyone. If play crosses one of our defined boundaries and it makes you uncomfortable you may hold up an "X" card (scribble it on paper) or – if you're not happy to do this – message me in-game and I will bring us around to a place of safety and comfort again. I do not want, at any point, for anyone to feel like they're a 'buzzkill' when something is out of their comfort zone. It is my intention that every player at my table has the opportunity to become friends and, in doing so, we must all respect each others’ boundaries and needs as gamers.
