About the adventure

Whack-a-mole or pulling weeds after the rain. Damn dandelions. That’s the job. Find the violation of reality and put it down with extreme prejudice. It shouldn’t be more complicated than that… Reality? You think you know what that is until your perspective shifts - is forced to. But what happens when reality becomes a tenuous concept at best and the weeds start growing - not just from your lawn - but from your body - what then? The roots have spread, spread to your mind. In the recesses of your mind, you hear the chiming and tolling of a multitude of diverse bells in the far off distance. In your peripheral vision, you could swear you see the shadows of an overflowing, yellow cloak creeping towards you. Dandelions. Dandelions as far as the eye can see. A king comes. In all his golden, jaundiced splendor. To gather the infinite, ochre harvest. This campaign will begin with either a one shot or short scenario to get a feel for the GM and players. Let’s discuss what we want to play and what we’ve played prior. After that, the intention is to begin the Impossible Landscapes campaign - which focuses on the King in Yellow and Carcosa, written about by Chambers and other mythos authors. I successfully ran this campaign for over a year for my in-person group, so I have expertise with both Delta Green and the intricacies of this massive +3 part scenario. I recommend we start with “Last Things Last” from the Quickstart, “Operation: FULMINATE” from the Handler’s Guide, “Sweetness,” or “The Last Equation” - the latter two from Black Sites. I have run all of these adventures in-person before and know them well. If we have determined there’s positive connections and traction, we can commit to the long campaign - or part ways with no hard feelings. Session zero/one is combined. You can either use a premade character, create one prior to play, or create one together with the GM or at table. Your first session as a new player is free. Just sign up, and I will change your first game to free when we schedule enough players to start. The game will be done through theater of the mind as voice chat through Discord using a dicebot. GoogleDrive will be used to store character sheets, rulebooks, handouts, etc. This game will run biweekly - weekly when desired and there’s player/GM availability. Sessions are scheduled on Tuesdays, 6-9 PM CST - though I’m open to starting at 5-8 PM. Three hours is the minimum; four hours is not uncommon, but five should be rare. There's usually a 5-10 minute break partway through the session that anyone can ask for. About me

My name is Michael, and I've been playing and running tabletop role playing games since the 90s when I was a young teen. My first character was a paladin in AD&D 2e. I was hooked. I became a FASA fanboy; Battletech, Shadowrun, and Earthdawn became my favorites. I attended a few conventions as a teenager and learned to appreciate all kinds of RPGs: GURPS, Rifts, Cthulhu, etc. When D&D 3.X hit, I ran a ton of that for my friend group. But then I moved away, went to school, began a career in teaching, and started a family. I took a long break from gaming not thinking I'd return. But 2020 was a wild year for everyone, and I got right back into gaming. I started a local in-person group then, and we still play weekly more often than not. We have a good problem: we have too many GMs. Since I don't get to GM as much as I would like, and my kids are at that age where they spend less time with dad and more time with friends, I started a second group online using Discord and theatre of the mind. I ran one consistent Shadowrun campaign for a year and a half, running published adventures more than biweekly. This was unaffiliated with StartPlaying, which I had not heard of at the time. I have a bucket list of systems, settings, and scenarios I've always wanted to run but haven't had the opportunity to do so in person. I am looking forward to running them for you, so let's StartPlaying. The link to my YouTube page below has videos of this profile as an audio tour, my GM expectations, and current campaign log.

Character creation

Creating your character

Session zero/one is combined. You can either use a premade character, create one prior to play, or create one together with the GM or at table. If you roll for anything like stats, it has to be done on the Discord server we will be using. You probably want to play a federal agent with legal powers like FBI, though NSA and some other organizations may work.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We're using my Discord server and GoogleDrive.

What Michael brings to the table

We do theater of the mind through voice chat on Discord. Everyone rolls using the dicebot on the server - in the open, including the GM (unless the rules or adventure say not to). There will be handouts but no tactical, grid-based combat. We will be going in RAW (rules as written).

Homebrew rules

Lethality and TPKs are a clear and present danger in Delta Green. Having run this campaign before, my group had a TPK in the second act. We kept running, but we had to pivot hard with a new group of characters. We need to discuss how we as a group want to approach character death and TPKs.

How Michael creates a safe table

Please note that this is an unrelenting horror campaign rated R (M). If you can’t handle a show like True Detective (Season 1!) or movies like The Thing, In the Mouth of Madness, The Ninth Gate, and Lord of Illusions, then this is definitely the wrong campaign for you. There will be a session zero, stars & wishes every session, and reminders to be proactive in regard to comfort level before, during, and after sessions. I don’t want to GM for minors.
