About the adventure
Welcome to the Mournland, Prospector. Set against the magic-punk, noir-tinged backdrop of Eberron, this campaign plunges you into the ruins of Cyre—a nation inexplicably destroyed in a single night of cosmic horror. Operating out of Salvation, a cutthroat border town full of scavengers, mercenaries, and opportunists, your party will venture into the ash-choked fog of the Mournland to retrieve lost treasures and deadly secrets. But when an ancient relic of terrifying power falls into your hands, a simple salvage job spiraling into a high-stakes conspiracy that threatens to reignite the continent-spanning Last War. This campaign is designed for players who love tactical depth, morally grey choices, and dynamic, story-driven action. If you enjoy a mix of dungeon crawling, faction intrigue, exciting combat, and uncovering rich lore alongside a cast of untrustworthy NPCs, you’ll feel right at home. Whether you are a veteran adventurer or an enthusiastic player ready to dive into a structured narrative campaign, this game rewards creative problem-solving, teamwork, and players who lean into character drama. As a Dungeon Master, I run a collaborative, moderately-paced table that balances gritty survival elements with heroic action. Expect meaningful consequences for your choices and plenty of room for your character’s personal background to shine. We focus on a "rules-as-intended" baseline with a heavy emphasis on rule-of-cool storytelling—if you come up with a clever, dramatic idea, I’m always going to help you try to pull it off. The mists are rising, and the pay is good. The only question left is: do you have what it takes to survive the Mournland?

About me
I started playing tabletop games in the early 1990s and - despite many a hiatus - I eventually keep coming back to play some more. I originally started by playing BattleTech and WEG Star Wars but quickly transitioned into AD&D 2e and DnD 3e. Since then, I've played Call of Cthulu, D&D 4e and 5e, FATE, Exalted, and Heroes of Adventure. I am interested in PBP adventures and one-shots!

Creating your character
Character Creation Guidelines Before we step into the mists of the Mournland, we will build your heroes so everyone is ready to roll on Day 1. Here is everything you need to know about crafting your character: When & Where Character creation takes place before Session 1. We will use our campaign chat/Discord server to bounce ideas around, coordinate party balance, and lock in builds. You can manage your final character sheet on D&D Beyond. Character Generation Rules Starting Level: Level 1. You begin as ambitious scavengers looking to make a name for yourselves in Salvation. Ability Scores: Point Buy (27 points). This ensures a balanced party where everyone starts on equal footing while allowing you to customize your strengths and weaknesses. Hit Points: Max HP at 1st level. Allowed Books & Content Allowed: All official Core D&D 5e sourcebooks (e.g., Player’s Handbook, Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything) as well as official Eberron-themed materials (Eberron: Rising from the Last War, Exploring Eberron). Eberron Flavor Encouraged: Warforged, Changeling, Kalashtar, Shifter, and Dragonmarked races fit seamlessly into this setting. Not Allowed/Restricted: Setting-specific content from other worlds (such as Dragonlance, Ravnica, or Strixhaven) or homebrew content without prior discussion and explicit approval. If you need help choosing a background that ties your character to the Last War, or want to weave your backstory directly into the factions of Salvation, send me a message in the chat—I'm happy to help build your hook!

What Joseph brings to the table
What I Bring to the Table Playing via Play-by-Post (PbP) should feel like a collaborative story, not a solo novel written by the GM. My role is to act as a facilitator—providing the world, the NPCs, and the situations, then getting out of the way so you drive the action. Here is what you can expect from my style at the table: Collaborative World-Building & Player Narrative The players tell the story here. You have full agency to describe battles, actions, and scenes through your character's eyes. Rather than writing long walls of descriptive text, I keep my posts short and functional to keep the game moving. If you ever want a detailed description or clarification on a scene, just tag me—I am always happy to expand on specific narrative details whenever you ask! Direct NPC Interaction via Tupperbox To keep interactions feeling immediate and responsive, I use Tupperbox to bring key NPCs directly into the chat. You can converse, negotiate, and clash with distinct characters in real time, steering the plot based on how you handle those relationships. Rule of Cool Heavy If you come up with a clever, cinematic, or dramatic idea, my default answer is almost always "Yes, let's roll for it." I prioritize fun, creative thinking, and player agency over strict Rules-as-Written mechanics. If an action makes sense for your character or sounds awesome, we will make it work. Clean, Fast Combat Combat is kept simple and streamlined over text—no bloated mechanics or complex tracking. Combined with your own descriptive flair for how your attacks and spells look, fights resolve quickly so we can embrace them as part of the overall story.

How Joseph creates a safe table
Upon joining my Discord channel, you will be asked to fill out a Lines and Veils document. At any time, you can contact me if you want to adjust these. This is a dark campaign that occurs soon after the Mourning. This event instantly killed millions and left their un-decaying bodies frozen in time across an entire continent. The campaign deals heavily with post-war trauma, veteran struggles, military orders, and the threat of global war restarting.
