About the adventure

"Sigil of Jerusalem" is a dark fantasy, eldritch horror, and historical intrigue campaign for D&D 5e, taking your party from level 1 to 10. Set across the bustling, tension-soaked streets of Jerusalem and Cairo, the game drops you into a shadow war where historical giants, like King Baldwin IV, the Leper King, and Sultan Saladin, have been forced into a desperate, secret truce. Far beneath the holy sites, ancient cisterns, and desert ruins, something ancient and cosmic is beginning to wake. This campaign is built for players who love rich historical atmosphere, deep investigative mysteries, and cosmic dread. The campaign is about what happens when human faith and political ambition collide with horrors beyond our ken. There are no perfect, squeaky-clean factions here. Everyone has flaws, everyone has secrets, and please toss "heroic fantasy" tropes in the bin. You will have to decide whether to stick to your moral code, trust unlikely allies, or touch forbidden powers just to keep the nightmare at bay.

About me

Hello! I’ve been playing and running RPGs for the better part of 3 decades, professionally for 10. In that time I’ve introduced tabletop rpgs in kids’ programs (ages 8-13) and to adults of all ages. I love nothing more than bringing people into the hobby! I run an inclusive and respectful table that spans playstyles from a light, casual atmosphere to an immersive and deep experience. Over at www.thetabletopalmanac.wordpress.com you can read reviews I’ve done of a variety of games. Even if not listed on my profile, I’m available to run them all!

Character creation

Creating your character

We'll use the Era of the Crusades companion book (to Sigil of Jerusalem) and the 2024 Player's Handbook. No homebrew, but anything outside of those can be discussed. Certain exceptions are below. Characters will be level 1 and use the Standard Array for Ability Scores. All Classes are available and the following species: Aasimar, Tiefling, Human, Genasi, Elfmarked (from the Midgard Heroes Handbook). I'd like to adhere to the occult theme, and feel the others diverge too much. Character creation will be discussed prior to the first session, I'll show how to do it in Foundry, then we'll try to take care of it as quickly as possible at the beginning.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I'll send a link to Sqyre, where the game is hosted, and my Discord server, once you join. You'll need a Sqyre account, which shouldn't take long to set up. You don't need to download anything. If you're unfamiliar with Foundry, I'm the only one who needs it and any of the content. All of it is available to you through the game UI.

What Simon brings to the table

I'll aim for distinct character voices (maybe accents). I like to stick to RAW, but will occasionally break it for what I feel is an outlier situation. I like combat to be fast and tactical and the lethality can be agreed upon by everyone before we start. If music is desired, the campaign has its own soundtrack(!).
