About the adventure
In Land of the Lost, you'll join a mercenary party that has found itself escorting an eccentric merchant across the mountains, only to quickly get wrapped up in the many mysteries of your final destination: the city of the arcane, Coesis. There you'll discover plots from who you'd expect and who you wouldn't, and slowly begin to unravel the mystery of why the land of Edam has forgotten so much─and who is working to find what has been lost. This campaign will feature: ☆ character driven plotlines ☆ puzzles both small and large ☆ a cast of secretive NPCs to befriend and beloath ☆ ancient horrors, growing cults, and suspicious disappearances ☆ a decade's worth of world-building to explore Session 0 is free, and new players are absolutely welcome; our session 0 will allow for regular onboarding information, character creation, and a short adventure to determine if this table is the right fit for you! My table will always be LGBTQ+ & neurodivergent friendly; if any accommodations are needed, feel free to reach out before we begin play!

Meet the Game Master
About me
Hi, my name is Moth! I'm 26 years old, I have a cat who loves helping run games, and I spend most of my free time doing nerdy things like playing TCGs, video games, and drawing my ttrpg characters. I've been really lucky in that ttrpgs have progressively become a bigger and bigger part of my life, and its allowed me to meet so many interesting people and be part of so many inspiring stories. I've been dming 5.5e professionally (in person) for about a year and I've been dming D&D and other ttrpgs in general for over a decade. Most of my ttrpg experience is definitely with homebrew D&D games, although I've also dabbled in several PbtA games, the upcoming Plotweaver system, Pathfinder, and the Cypher system. I love trying new games and new systems, and I also love experimenting with the use of mechanics from different systems within D&D itself! I in particular have a homebrew setting I've been working on for the better part of my decade DMing that I love sharing with people and seeing how different groups approach different aspects of it across systems, but I've also really grown to love some of D&D's "canon" settings like Ravenloft, Baldur's Gate, and Eberron.

Creating your character
TLDR? A character creation checklist: - Level 2 with a modified standard array - Official WotC 2024 sources only - 'Divine' character options require discussion - Ideals/Bonds/Flaws heavily encouraged - A backstory concept that includes a 'knife' (something I can use to raise the stakes for your character), a reason to adventure, and a personal goal Characters will be starting at level 2, using a modified standard array (16/14/13/12/10/8) and 2024 WotC sources. You are more than welcome to come to session 0 with a character idea locked and loaded, but we will also spend some time at session 0 working on character sheets and backstories; sheets will be hosted on our VTT, Foundry. A player guide to the setting will be available in the discord for use in backstory creation. There are a few banned sources/classes (or at least, some discussion may be required about incorporating them): - Eberron sources; particularly the relevant technology, such as guns - Clerics/Paladins/'Divine' Subclasses; this setting lacks an active pantheon, and there is no active worship of gods, so classes and subclasses relying on a connection to the divine may require some re-flavoring if you're attached to them
What to expect
Preparing for the session
All you strictly need to join is a Discord account! I will send you an invite once you've committed to a session 0, where you'll find the setting primer and space to discuss the game both one on one and with the other players. To join Foundry, you'll only need a link that I will provide in the Discord server.
What Moth brings to the table
My games tend to include custom maps of the setting, custom battlemaps, NPC portraits (human drawn; no AI here!), the occasional hand-out, tone appropriate ambient music, and plenty of custom homebrew. I definitely embrace the Rule of Cool: if you can make a convincing argument for something, there's a good chance I will allow it! I am also always willing to spend one on one time with my players: whether that be before the game to help you develop a character or learn the mechanics of the game, or mid-campaign if you have an issue you need to bring up or even just want to talk about your character and the campaign so far.
Homebrew rules
While there may be some homebrew mechanics I use behind the screen to enhance the RAW, these are the house rules everyone at the table will use: - Improved Healing Potions. Potions can be taken as a bonus action, but healing potions (or any potions that require a dice roll!) can also be taken as a full magic action in exchange for automatic best results (ie, instead of rolling 2d4+2, you'd automatically get 10 HP) - Brutal Criticals. When rolling damage for a critical hit, you will always maximize the damage from the base die. - Secret Death Saves. Death saves are made privately between me and the player making them. - Alternative Flanking. When two allies are on opposite sides of an enemy creature, each ally gets +2 to attack rolls made against that creature; when 5+ spaces around an enemy creature are occupied by allies, each ally gets +5 to attack rolls made against that creature.

How Moth creates a safe table
Session 0 will include a discussion of Lines and Veils (and an opportunity to discuss them with me one on one, if you're not comfortable discussing that as a group) and known trigger warnings about the campaign. Players are ALWAYS welcome to message me to update their Lines and Veils or discuss any triggering topics that come up in game, whether after session or during session if you need to call a stop to something. My games typically include a 5-10 minute break roughly halfway through the session, and after session I'll usually invite players to join me for a small activity like Wordle while we decompress and discuss that day's session. While I don't use stars and wishes after every session, I do ask players to fill out a short google form every 5-7 sessions that asks questions like what you're enjoying about the game, what you want to see changed, and what you're looking forwards to.
