About the adventure
DAWNSTAR: FIRST DEBTS A Level 1 Adventure of Survival, Intrigue & Dangerous Alliances One moment, you were somewhere else. Perhaps you walked the streets of Waterdeep, crossed the wastes beneath the dying sun of Athas, fled through the mists of Ravenloft—or came from somewhere entirely different. Then reality tore you away. You awaken on cold stone beneath an unfamiliar sky. No weapons. No armor. No gold. No spellcasting focus. Not even the clothes on your back. Welcome to Dawnstar. Dawnstar is a magnificent city trapped within a mysterious pocket dimension, populated by people and creatures pulled from countless worlds across the multiverse. Beyond its island lies an impenetrable barrier. No ship or spell has found a way through. There may be only one way home. The Dungeon. Beneath Dawnstar lies an enormous, seemingly impossible dungeon whose depths have never been fully explored. Delvers descend seeking treasure, magical artifacts, vital resources—and perhaps the secret to escaping Dawnstar. But you're not ready for that. Right now, you need shoes. The volunteer Dawnstar Stewards provide clothing, food, shelter, and an explanation of your strange new home. They can help you survive—but they can't afford to outfit you as an adventurer. Others can. The Hollow Hand offers steel, coin, and work of a somewhat dishonest variety. The Veiled Coin can provide almost anything—as long as you're comfortable owing them afterward. The Whisper Court trades in secrets, influence, and favors that may come due long after you've forgotten making them. All three want Dawnstar's newest arrivals. All three can give you what you desperately need. And all three want something in return. Your first seemingly simple job will place you directly in the middle of their struggle for power. What to Expect First Debts is a roughly 4-hour, Level 1 one-shot introducing the original Dawnstar Campaign Setting. Expect character-driven roleplay, investigation, faction intrigue, tactical combat, meaningful choices, and true zero-to-hero progression. Your character can originate from virtually any fantasy world, and their life before Dawnstar matters. There is no predetermined "correct" faction. Who you trust determines who equips you, who fights beside you, and potentially who becomes your enemy. Today you're penniless newcomers powerful people believe they can exploit. Survive long enough, and those same people may discover that you're the ones they should have been afraid of. Arrive with nothing. Choose who to trust. Survive your first debt. Welcome to Dawnstar.
