About the adventure
Join us as we delve into the haunted lands of Barovia for this classic Gothic Horror campaign, this time with a dark twist. No longer is this a tale of valiant heroes rising to conquer unquestionable evils, but one of ethical dilemmas and morally grey NPCs, where one must always choose the lesser of two evils. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. This campaign is designed for players flair for the dramatic. Together can create a dynamic and exciting blend of evocative roleplaying, wondrous exploration, and captivating combat. Whether you seek poetic, raw moments of character expression or intricate, tactical combat with objectives that reach far beyond skirmishes-to-the-death, you will find a home at this table. Let's craft some living, dramatic, exciting moments together. --- NOTE: Despite the dark themes of this campaign, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and fascist ideologies will not tolerated from players at this table. Black Lives Matter. Trans and reproductive rights are human rights.

About me
Heya, I’m Thomas! A lifelong storyteller with a flair for the dramatic, I love collaboratively bringing worlds and narratives to life in a great number of systems. My specialty has always been the crafting of immersive experiences where players aren't just witnesses to the story, but are foundational to the direction the world and narrative take. As a composer for film and TV, I bring the same interweaving of artistic and technological techniques to the games I run/facilitate. Visually, that takes the form of animated maps and splash screens, dynamic lighting and particle effects, and detailed, animated tokens. Sonically, I blend adaptive and dynamic environmental ambience with soundtracks (both subtle and striking) to emphasize the mood, be it combat, exploration, intrigue, or downtime. I strive to bring a presence and personality to every NPC—villain or ally—to make them feel multi-dimensional and truly alive. The end result is an experience that is visceral and personal, with the character's actions showing a real and tangible effect on the world around them. I am deeply inspired by the epic character arcs of shows like Critical Role, but will happily deliver lighthearted fun like Dimension 20 or the Adventure Zone depending on the campaign and the table's preferences. One of my favorite things about this hobby is that so many wonderful experiences fit under the TTRPG umbrella, so reach out and tell me what you are looking for. Chances are we can build it together.

Creating your character
We will create our characters together during Session Zero to maximize table cohesion, create interpersonal character connections, and tone/theme alignment.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
If you are new to Daggerheart, I highly recommend watching the instructional video series from Critical Role, detailing everything you need to know: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKCcN4B6ZBs&list=PL1tiwbzkOjQzrupXVqcsfRyJ_0m5ABXov&ab_channel=CriticalRole If you would like a more robust understanding of the rules before we start, pages 35-40 of the SRD (linked below) cover the system in full. https://www.daggerheart.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/DH-SRD-1.0-June-26-2025.pdf

How Thomas Thoreau creates a safe table
Before Session Zero, I will send out a survey so players can share details of their expectations and needs in private. During Session Zero, we will discuss these expectations, as well as the tone and genre of the campaign. Afterwards, we will discuss the lines and veils for my table and those of each individual player. We will end with a discussion of how to use X/N/O cards, before jumping into crafting characters in Foundry and teaching how it all works. This is designed to be a living and breathing agreement that can and will shift and grow based on the needs of all involved throughout the entire campaign.
