About the adventure
Welcome to Korvosa, the Jewel of Varisia. On the surface, it is a bustling, proud metropolis of towering spires, grand academies, and sprawling markets. But beneath its grand Chelish architecture lies a city rotting from within—a place governed by ruthless crime lords, shadowy cults, and political intrigue where human life is remarkably cheap. Korvosa is plunging headlong into chaos. The city is on the brink of riots. Will they begin to tear through the streets? If so, then, martial law will descend like an armored curtain. A new ruler will claim the Crimson Throne—a ruler whose dark distressing ambitions threaten to rend the city apart. Players start as everyday citizens linked together by a shared history of grievance, betrayal, and a burning desire for justice and perhaps, revenge. The city is spiraling into anarchy and tyranny. The fate of thousands will rest squarely on your shoulders. Curse of the Crimson Throne is primarily a gritty urban adventure set in the city of Korvosa. When law and order disintigrate, saving the city will lead to difficult choices. Choices that will blur the lines between freedom fighter and wanted outlaw. Rise from citizens brought together by common cause to legendary defenders squaring off against an imperial despot. Will you save Korvosa or will the curse prevail?

About me
I've been enjoying role-playing games for over 30 years. I started my love of RPGs with the red box basic D&D set that was released in the 80's; I still have the dice. I played a fighter hired by royalty to explore and cleanse a dungeon. This whole scenario was created by my brother. I became hooked however I didn't get to play D&D again until several years later. A friend invited me to join his Ravenloft campaign, I leaped at the opportunity. Over the years that gaming group lost and gained people. We have played different systems as well, from AD&D 2nd. to Rifts, to World of Darkness and D&D 3rd/3.5 and a few indie games as well. I've played D&D from that Basic Red Box set then AD&D 2nd ed. all the way through to 2014 5th ed. Yes, I even played 4th. My first experience truly Dming was when I ran a homebrew campaign set in the Forgotten Realms under the 3.5 rules. Currently I play 2014 5th edition D&D, Pathfinder 1e, and Starfinder 1e. I have run campaigns for all three systems. These three d20 based games are the ones that I have the most familiarity with and feel very comfortable teaching to others. The games/campaigns I have DMed are exclusively online using Roll20 with players across the country in every US time zone. The best part about DMing is creating stories and memories with others. A little bit more about me is that I am a proud father and husband. I love spending time with my family. I have recently gotten into board gaming. My preference of board games coincides with my RPG hobby as most of the board games I own are big box story driven role-playing games such as ISS Vanguard, Harakiri: Blades of Honor, and Nova Aetas to name a few. I enjoy spending time with my family. Occasionally I play a video game or two, mostly RPGs, shocker! In my free time, when I have it, I enjoy painting miniatures for my board games. But mostly I love playing D&D. I really enjoy creating a story with others and seeing where it goes. I love it when a player has an "out-of-the-box" idea and I tend to bend the rules a little to make it work. Grab your dice, have a seat at the table and let's have some fun!

Creating your character
Players will begin at level one. Session zero will consist of game discussion, basics and expectations as well as character creation. Please use pathcompanion.com for character creation, it's free. Group ID given upon joining. Character creation will be done during session zero. Traits and Drawbacks are optional but encouraged. Players will roll for stats. Rolling method: Roll 4d6, drop lowest result five times, roll 5d6 once using highest three for final score. Use remaining lowest two dice rolled and assign one die to a single ability score two times. Example: Player rolls first five abilities as follows: 17, 16, 15, 13, 11. Last roll is 5d6, resulting in: 6, 5, 4, 3, 1. The highest three are used for the last ability score = 15. Choose where to add the 3 to one ability score, say, the 11 to make it 14 and the 1 to the 17 for an 18. Final ability scores are 18, 16, 15, 15, 14, 13. Assign scores wherever you like and apply ancestry bonuses.

What Cody brings to the table
I bring a fair and balanced game to the table. No one PC is the hero. Everyone is the hero. The spotlight is shared. Work together and you will all be just fine. My main goal is to build a story and shape a world with you, full of memorable moments. Do you think outside the box? Great! Have an insane idea? Go for it! I follow rule of cool and will assign whatever checks I deem appropriate for whatever it is you want to try and do. You are the character you want to play. Are you new to RPGs? I would relish at the opportunity to teach you the basics as well as provide hints and tips so that you gain confidence in your playing. I do poor impressions, decent impressions and some sound effects (good and bad). My combat varies from cannon fodder encounters to lull you into thinking you are all powerful to intense near TPKs to make you "Run Away! Run Away!" so in the future you will check yourselves before you wreck yourselves. Ultimately, this game is your story. I am simply your guide. Grab your dice and let's have some fun.
Homebrew rules
Homebrew rules: No PvP or disruptive/distracting play. We are all adults. RPGs are not "winnable." If you are here to "win" at this game perhaps my table is not for you. I prefer to have players "roll" for ability scores. Critical Hits?: You get one die equivalent to max damage then roll for it! Depending on your Critical multiplier is how many extra dice you roll. Example: Your critical multiplier is x3. You get one die at maximum damage then roll the remaining two dice. Please keep in mind the actions you can take on your turn. Use a cheat sheet if needed. Any questions or concerns? Please ask. Bringing a PC back to life will be a ritual performed by three players who all contribute through various ability checks. (Mercer's Rule) Only two players are allowed to do the same skill check in the same circumstance, unless called to perform a group check. Other homebrew rules can be added as needed.

How Cody creates a safe table
During the session zero we will have a Luxton Technique Discussion. Any red flags or triggers can be discussed openly. X, N, and O cards can be done digitally through the VTT either in general chat or whispered message to DM. Additionally, displaying X above head on webcam can be used. An open door policy will be put in place so that any player that needs to step away from the table for any reason may do so. A break, if needed, at the approximate midpoint of the session will be given is asked. Lastly, on an as needed or requested basis, there will be an opportunity for debriefing so that any issues can be addressed.
