About the adventure

Nirvana on Fire is a Mothership sci-fi horror adventure set on Siddhartha’s Peace, an isolated colony founded as a utopian refuge far from the Core Worlds. Now the dream is falling apart. Essential systems are failing, tensions are rising, and a desperate call for help brings your crew to a colony on the edge of disaster. Expect exploration, survival horror, strange technology, corporate secrets, and difficult choices. This is a player-driven game where investigation, roleplaying, and creative problem-solving matter as much as combat. New and experienced Mothership players are welcome, and you can expect plenty of tension, dark humor, bad decisions, and opportunities to decide exactly how far your crew is willing to go to survive.

About me

I run games with the goal of giving every player a chance to shine. I have spent years GM-ing for kids, teens, and adults, and that mix of experience has made me good at guiding brand new players while still giving seasoned adventurers the excitement they want. My background in community programming shapes the way I run tables. I focus on creating safe, welcoming spaces where everyone feels included. I enjoy teaching rules in a natural, stress-free way and building encounters that reward teamwork, clever thinking, and bold choices. I have played and run a wide range of tabletop systems over the years, with Dungeons and Dragons as my home base. I love bringing stories to life with vivid narration, player-driven decision making, and fast-paced combat that stays fun and clear. If you want a GM who brings heart, structure, and energy to the table, I would be excited to host your next adventure.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will create characters together before the first session using Foundry VTT, following the standard Mothership character creation rules. Characters will start as newly created characters, and you can choose any standard class. You do not need to arrive with a character already made. We will use Foundry VTT for character sheets, maps, dice rolls, and gameplay, with Discord for voice and communication. I will help anyone unfamiliar with Mothership or Foundry through the process, so new players are absolutely welcome.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before the game, please complete the following: 1. Join the Discord server using the invitation I provide. We will use Discord for voice chat and communication. 2. Make sure you have a working microphone and can access Discord during the session. Headphones are strongly recommended. 3. You do not need to download Foundry VTT or create a Foundry account. You will access the game through your web browser using the link I provide. 4. A desktop or laptop computer is strongly recommended for Foundry. 5. Test your Discord audio and Foundry connection before game day if possible. 6. You do not need to know the Mothership rules beforehand. New players are welcome, and we will cover what you need to know at the table.

What Larry brings to the table

I run Mothership as fast, atmospheric sci-fi horror with a strong focus on exploration, roleplaying, and player choices. I use Foundry VTT for maps and visual aids, along with ambient music and sound effects to build tension. I enjoy character voices, dark humor, and giving players plenty of room to interact with the world and come up with solutions I never expected. Combat is dangerous and usually best approached with a plan. I generally stick to the rules, but I am happy to embrace the Rule of Cool when a creative idea makes the game more interesting. Expect a collaborative table where clever plans are rewarded, failure moves the story forward, and running away is sometimes the smartest thing you can do.

Safety

How Larry creates a safe table

Mothership is a horror game, so player safety and comfort are important at my table. Before we begin, we will establish Lines and Veils so everyone can identify subjects they don't want included or would prefer to keep off-screen. We will also discuss the tone and expected level of horror before play begins. Players are always welcome to contact me privately through Discord if there is something they would rather not discuss with the group. During play, we will use a digital X Card. Anyone can use it at any time, without explanation, to pause, skip, or change something that is making them uncomfortable. Players can also step away from the game whenever they need to. After particularly intense sessions, I like to leave a little time to decompress, check in, and talk about the game. The goal is to create genuine tension and horror while making sure everyone at the table feels respected and comfortable.
