About the adventure

Your hero’s journey begins at Level 1 near the frontier town of Phandalin. What should have been a simple escort job for some extra gold quickly turns into something much bigger in this hybrid campaign that brings together everything the adventures Lost Mine of Phandelver and Dragon of Icespire Peak have to offer. These two classic D&D starter campaigns are combined into one larger adventure and refitted for the 2024e/5.5e rules. This campaign embraces the classic fantasy adventure. You’ll seek the thrill of hunting dangerous monsters, venture into dungeons searching for lost treasures, and encounter plenty of opportunities for adventure along the way. Will you pursue the main quest presented to you, or will that side quest you picked up in town, promising quick treasure and adventure, prove too tempting to ignore? Whatever path you choose, your character will grow in combat, strategy, and roleplaying along the way, becoming a hero of Phandalin around Level 7. And if the group wants to keep the story going, we can continue into another adventure using the characters you’ve spent the campaign developing and investing in. There’s always more adventure to be had! Whether you’re completely new to Dungeons & Dragons or an experienced adventurer, you’re welcome at the table. This campaign provides plenty of opportunities for new players to learn the ropes while also giving experienced players a longer-form adventure in which to develop and invest in their characters. I’ll also incorporate elements of your character’s backstory, along with relevant D&D lore, into the adventure whenever possible. My goal is to make your character feel like they belong in this world – not simply another adventurer passing through Phandalin, but a hero with their own story to tell. Most importantly, I want you to have fun, develop a character you love playing, and hopefully finish the campaign with stories you’ll still be telling your friends long after the adventure is over!

About me

Welcome to Angelfire Games! I'm Andrew, your game master and I'm glad you're here. TTRPGs have held a special place in my heart for many years and I'm excited to share that with you. I started playing TTRPGs with Dungeons and Dragons when I was a teenager and have expanded in game mastering and playing other RPGs since then. As a game master, I seek to provide a space where my players have the freedom to build characters they love, and to feel like they have an impact on the story. With every game I GM, my goal is to provide an experience where players can hang up their every day hats for a while and become their character as they delve into another world, build friendships, and fight for what they believe in. I hope you're ready to be a part of it. Let's roll some dice.

What Angelfire Games brings to the table

As your GM, I'll provide an open world for you to explore, interact with, and, importantly, slay monsters! While the adventure has an overarching story, I encourage playing in character. You'll have opportunities to make your own choices, pursue different paths, and discover what Phandalin and the surrounding frontier have to offer. I'll always work to incorporate your character's backstory into the adventure whenever possible. Your character shouldn't feel like they were simply dropped into the story—they should feel like they belong in it. I'll look for opportunities to connect your character's history, goals, and personality with the world and the campaign arc. Immersion & Storytelling I'll work to provide an immersive experience through roleplay, lore, world-building, and storytelling. I'll draw from the existing lore of the Forgotten Realms while also expanding on the world around Phandalin to make the setting feel alive. I'm not a professional voice actor, but I'll use voices and character mannerisms when I feel comfortable doing so to help bring NPCs and the world to life. Don't expect a one-man Broadway production—just expect me to have fun with it! Rules & The Rule of Cool We'll generally follow Rules as Written (RAW) for character traits, abilities, and the D&D 2024/5.5e rules. However, when an opportunity comes up where bending the rules can create an especially exciting or memorable moment for everyone, I embrace the Rule of Cool. The goal isn't to ignore the rules, but to use them as a framework for creating a fun and engaging game. At the end of the day, we're here to roll some dice, tell a great story, watch our characters do awesome things, and have fun doing it!

Homebrew rules

The only homebrew rule I currently bring to the table involves Death Saving Throws. Three failed Death Saving Throws do not always mean your character dies. However, they will result in death during a boss fight. You will be made aware when you’re entering a boss fight. That said, I'm open to player-suggested homebrew! If everyone at the table agrees and it makes the game more fun, I'm happy to consider it.

Safety

How Angelfire Games creates a safe table

At the beginning of the session, I will ask if there are any topics, themes, or triggers that players would like me to be aware of. You are never required to share these publicly with the group. If you'd rather discuss something privately, you are welcome to send me a direct message at any time. I will do my best to respect your boundaries and avoid intentionally introducing content that may make you uncomfortable. My goal is to create a table where everyone feels safe, respected, and able to enjoy the game.
