About the adventure

Welcome to Beacon, Tennessee, a bustling city nestled into the Smoky Mountains. From the dozens of music festivals, the crazy night life, the heavy handed moonshine trade, and the sightseeing, there’s a ton to do here. It also happens to be the premiere hotspot for Monster Hunters, as strange supernatural occurrences happen there every single day at any given hour. From cryptid spottings of all kinds to rumors of bootlegging vampires to the legend of the Smoky Mountain Sasquatch, this is the place to be if you want to make it big as a monster hunter— or at least get rich trying. Monster hunting in this world, after all, is a profession akin to chefs or actors-- many try to strike it out and make it big, but most fail miserably. But beneath the sparkling veneer of this tourist trap, Beacon holds its own secrets, and something has been stirring under the surface for decades. Powerful forces are converging over the city, wishing to take it into its grasp, and it’s up to you to sleuth out what these forces are, document them, and find a way to destroy them for good. But beware, for these aren’t the kinds of monsters that can be killed easily. In fact, they aren’t really monsters at all. Tell me hunters, are you prepared to try and take down malevolent Gods?

About me

I AM THE ULTIMATE NON-DND TTRPG GM! IF YOU'RE LOOKING TO LEARN A NEW SYSTEM, ESPECIALLY POWERED BY THE APOCALYPSE, PLEASE DM ME AND I CAN WHIP SOMETHING UP! Hi, I'm Luciano, but everyone calls me Luci. I like to make games that push the boundaries of what a system can provide and the stories it can tell. Kids with Brooms in a ghibli-style apocalypse? Yup!! Thirsty Sword Lesbians but with psychological horror? Yup!! Monster of the Week but with Matrix-style reality shenanigans? Yup!!! (Do my campaigns almost always have an element of eldritch horror? Yup. Have I been lovingly made fun of it by basically all my players? ...Yup.) I make games with storylines and plots that can often get pretty off the rails, but at the center of each lies a world with a bleeding heart that, while flawed, deserves to be saved, and is often filled with equally flawed but compassionate NPCs who are the heroes of their own stories. And my biggest goal as a GM is to integrate your character into this world and among these people, and to make the story work for you. I don't do TTRPG worlds where the players feel otherworldly and like they're above the world, like the world is so delicate that it and all its people will collapse if the players' aren't there. Your character is a hero, but they are a part of the world, and I aim to make you feel that way, often revolving my writing around catering to the storylines and interests of each player character. So if you're ready to get real attached to NPCs, if you're ready for me to make it my goal to make you get emotional, and if you're ready to go through the craziest hells and come out the other side in order to literally sucker punch an interpretation of the Christian God-- uh, hit me up?

Character creation

Creating your character

Standard monster of the week rules apply and I will run free individual character creation sessions if you need help-- HOWEVER. Please keep in mind that this is a world where monsters are very well known and monster hunting is not a secret, but a career path. Keep in mind also that friendly monsters are well known and exist as well as dangerous ones.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Join the discord, and if you want, join the individual character creation help session I will give out for free! Make sure to tell me your character idea BEFORE THE GAME so I can make sure it fits and give you connections to the world. Depending on playbook and character, I can offer you bits of lore unknown to the other players to make your character feel like they're part of the world.

What Luciano Sterious-Cortese brings to the table

I do character voices and draw silly shitposts of our characters when they have funny moments, and may, when inspired and able, draw actual art of our characters.

Homebrew rules

The full list will be in the discord server, however the most important one is that the eldritch deities you will be fighting cannot be killed via punching them really good and have particular rules that need to be followed to eventually defeat them. Each will require investigation

Safety

How Luciano Sterious-Cortese creates a safe table

I check in every hour to make sure players are okay, ask if anyone needs a break, and inform the players of my estimate of about how far through we are with session. I also employ X cards and lines and veils. HOWEVER, in this campaign there are content warnings that cannot be avoided. Please read them carefully. Here are the ones that are most unavoidable: Insects, Body Horror, Fungi, Mind Control, hiveminds, Unreality and questioning of reality, Harm (but not death) to one child, Blood, bleeding and gore, Real World Issues (specifically with nature conservation, the justice system, and economics, but some more minor ones too) When one of these unavoidable triggers come up, I will warn at the start of session and make aware which one it is.
