About the adventure
You just arrived at Melenai, far from the rest of the world, where no-one knows who you are. A perfect place for a fresh start. And yet, it seems poverty and politics are inescapable even here. Luckily there is plenty of work for adventurers as long as you're willing to get your blade dirty and keep your nose clean. Though it's never that simple, is it? One man's good deed is another's crime. No matter the choice you'll get tangled up in plots and rivalries. Wouldn't it be so much easier to just forget it all? Forget the politics? Forget yourself? No? you want something else? Well, strike out on your own. Wander and explore. Slay some monsters. Delve into lost ruins. Find some ancient beings to serve. You will serve, won't you? No? Pity, maybe you won't be given a choice then... Melenai is living world meant for an open world campaign. You will start out in Fellmoar, find some odd jobs, making some coin. While doing this, you'll get your first taste of the setting and the kind of quests you might encounter (aka the kind with choices). After that, you'll be expected to take some initiative. While there will still be quests and leads and rumors, you'll have to chose what to pursue and what to ignore. While doing this, you will trip over plot threads and kick up some hornets nests. With these you'll gain a picture of the underlying strife and the ancient evils that lurk beneath everything. You can then deal with them, ignore them or even side with them.

About me
Hey, I'm Lily, I have been playing DnD for over a decade and dming for a bit less than that. First irl, and then online when the pandemic hit. It did lead to my longest campaign, which has lasted nearly 6 years. In general I love fantasy, most of which I absorbed through games. Dragon age, guild wars, and the elder scrolls are some favorites. My autism tends to mean I hyperfixate on certain things, as demonstrated by the Thousands of hours in these games. I used to play MtG, however I was always more interested in the lore than the actual game. I love worldbuilding and thinking about it. And this does reflect in my campaigns. I'm not very interested in running modules because one of the things I love most about dming is to exercise my creative muscles to build a living world out of nothing.

Creating your character
Character creation - start at level 1 - standard array or point buy - basic starting equipment - 5.5e rules - homebrew/universes beyond things ask me. Backstory Since the campaign assumes you're all outcasts arriving on the island together, there are some specific questions I would like everyone to answer for their character: - why did you leave? - what are you happy to leave behind? - What do you regret leaving behind? - What is one thing you wish you could change? - What is one thing you would do again, regardless of the consequences?
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a roll 20 account and a discord account. Further I would like you to fill out a consent checklist.
What Lily brings to the table
A homebrew hand crafted island to explore and adventure in. An interconnected adventure where the world pushes back and with plenty of difficult choices. Unique and sometimes challenging encounters with their mechanics and challenges. I also bring some levity to the dark topics. Just because the world is doom and gloom, doesn't mean we need to be all the time. Variation is the spice of life after all.
Homebrew rules
- Healing items used outside of combat will have full effectiveness (aka max roll on dice). Conversations/persuasion Rather than just rolling a persuasion to convince someone it'll be a more complex conversation. You can use different skills, like explaining some relevant arcane phenomena, or using stealth to analyze battle plans. Persuasion is still an option, but it should be only one step in long conversation. underwater combat - if you don't have a swim speed, your base movement underwater is equal to 10+athletics modifier - you can use a bonus action to make a DC 15 athletics check to be able to move your normal speed for this turn. - You can't cast spells with a vocal component unless you can breathe underwater - Creatures underwater have vulnerability to lightning and cold damage. - cold damage will create a temporary physical barrier of ice. - lightning damage will create an electrified area, creatures in this area can take reactions and take 1d4 lightning damage at the start of their turns. - holding your breath requires you to take an action to start holding your breath to gain the full duration. If you can't, because you are surprised or being choked for example, you can only hold your breath only for 5 +con mod turns.

Safety
How Lily creates a safe table
First of all, we'll have a session 0 to discuss what can occur in the campaign. We'll go over everyone's lines and veils. Since the game is Dark fantasy a lot is assumed permissible, still the lines of what exactly is and isn't will be discussed during this session 0. We'll use a consent checklist to help with this determination. In addition we'll discuss how we'll approach all the other safety tools. For example if on showing an N card, there needs to be a break, or we can just fade to black. During the sessions themselves we will use X,N,O cards to signal players comfort level. In addition you're free to leave at any time or call for a break if needed. Lastly after the session I'll foresee some time for discussion and/or aftercare. Overall I'm a fan of communication, if something is bothering you, you're always free to talk to me, or message me.
