About the adventure

Welcome to Last Summer, a nostalgic coming-of-age horror RPG inspired by the golden age of 1980’s horror cinema. Set in the sleepy American town of Northwood, you play as a group of teenagers spending one final summer together before life pulls you in different directions. College, work, relationships and adulthood are all waiting just around the corner. This was supposed to be the summer of late-night bonfires, road trips, first loves and unforgettable memories. Instead, something impossible has found its way to Northwood, and surviving the summer may become your greatest achievement. Expect a story inspired by films such as Halloween, The Evil Dead, Candyman, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th and The Thing, among many more. The horror unfolds slowly, allowing friendships, rivalries, romances and personal drama to develop before the nightmare truly begins. Every mystery is different, and while monsters may be terrifying, the greatest challenge is often deciding who you trust when the adults refuse to believe what’s happening. Last Summer is a narrative-first experience where your character’s relationships are just as important as their ability to survive. There are no legendary heroes or chosen ones here. You’re ordinary teenagers forced into extraordinary circumstances. Teamwork, clever thinking and difficult choices matter far more than combat, and every decision can shape not only the mystery, but who your characters become before the summer, or their life, comes to an end. The system itself is heavily inspired by classic OSR design while embracing modern narrative roleplay. It uses an intentionally streamlined combination of D10s and D6s, keeping the rules fast to learn and allowing the story to remain at the centre of play. Characters are defined by simple star-rated STATS, meaningful strengths and weaknesses, and mechanics designed to encourage creativity, tension and roleplaying over complex rules interactions. This is an early playtest Play-By-Post campaign for a tabletop RPG that I am actively writing. By joining, you’ll not only experience a brand-new horror RPG before its release, but you’ll also have the opportunity to help shape its development through your feedback. The rules are fully playable, but may evolve between adventures as mechanics are refined and improved throughout the play-testing process.

About me

I’m a passionate Game Master with a deep love for storytelling, immersive roleplay, and cinematic gameplay. I’ve been running tabletop RPGs for several years, with a focus on Daggerheart, Cyberpunk RED, Masks and more recently diving into some horror systems like Mothership. I specialise in crafting adventures with strong narrative arcs, dynamic NPCs, and a focus in player-driven choices that shape the world. My background includes years of experience in creative project management, which I now pour into building engaging campaigns, and memorable one-shots. Whether you’re a brand new player or a seasoned veteran, my goal is to create a fun, inclusive, and welcoming table where everyone gets a chance to shine. I love blending roleplay with tactical encounters, mystery, and moments of levity, and I’ll always make sure your character has a place in the story. Let’s roll some dice and tell an epic story together!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will take place in the discord server’s game text-chat before the game begins, with me guiding everyone through the process step by step. Since this is a playtest for a brand-new system, you won’t need to read any rulebooks beforehand or bring a pre-made character—I’ll explain everything as we go. Rather than arriving with a fully realised character concept, you’ll discover your character through the dice. You’ll begin by rolling on a series of tables to determine your character’s outline or “Trope”—perhaps you’re The Jock, The Prom Queen, The Rich Kid, The Pizza Delivery Driver, or one of many other 1980s-inspired archetypes. From there, you’ll roll your attributes, health and other details using the game’s simple D10 and D6 mechanics, creating a character that’s unique and often delightfully unexpected. In true OSR fashion, the dice provide the foundation, not the finished product. Your rolls will tell you who your character might be, but it’s your job to breathe life into them. Their personality, fears, ambitions, relationships, sense of humour and how they respond when the nightmare begins are entirely yours to create. Some of the most memorable characters come from embracing unexpected combinations rather than chasing an optimised build. Because this is a playtest, I’ll be on hand throughout the process to answer questions, explain mechanics and make sure everyone ends up with a character they’re excited to play. The aim is to get you into the story quickly, with a cast of believable teenagers who feel like they could have stepped straight out of an 1980s horror film.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Preparing for the game is simple! All you’ll need is a Discord account, as the entire campaign is run through the Tasty Games Discord server. Upon registering for the game, you’ll receive the server invitation link and everything you need to play, including the rules, character creation, dice rolling and game channels. Tasty Games is home to a growing community of friendly, like-minded tabletop gamers who enjoy immersive roleplay, collaborative storytelling and Play-by-Post games. Whether you’re completely new to Play-by-Post or a seasoned veteran, you’ll find a welcoming community that’s always happy to chat about games, share ideas and cheer each other’s stories on. No virtual tabletop, additional software or rulebooks are required, just Discord, a willingness to roleplay, and a love for nostalgic horror.

What KingTasty (Elliot) brings to the table

What I Provide as Your GM: My Play-by-Post style is that of a collaborative novel: narrative-driven, character-focused, and shaped by the choices you make. Expect rich storytelling, meaningful character development, and plenty of opportunities to explore your backstories and relationships within the world. I always prioritise fun and story over strict mechanical rules. For Play-by-Post to flow smoothly and ensure every character has their time to shine, I streamline certain systems and avoid getting bogged down in nitpicky mechanics. This keeps the pace steady while still delivering the excitement of combat, the tension of intrigue, and the satisfaction of problem-solving. You can expect: • A narrative-heavy style that feels like co-authoring a novel. • Collaborative worldbuilding and opportunities to weave your character into the lore and help make their mark on the sandbox world. • Flexible rulings that embrace the Rule of Cool over rules lawyering. • Streamlined systems designed specifically for Play-by-Post pacing. • A focus on character arcs, relationships, and impactful storytelling. In our game, the focus is on collaboration, creativity, and narrative… not crunch. Come ready to tell an unforgettable story together.

Homebrew rules

The whole game is homebrew! Though I’ll be there throughout every step of the way to explain the narrative driven, quick, pick up and play style ruleset.

How KingTasty (Elliot) creates a safe table

Players will be kept safe with consistent openness. An open door policy with the GM will allow players a voice, and lines and veils are always welcome and respected. With the play by post format, there’s always time to take breaks and have some ‘bleed’ between big or intense moments.
