Creating your character

After you join, we’ll build your Level 1 heroine together in Discord using the Daggerheart core rules and Hope & Fear options. Choose the class, domains, ancestry, community, equipment, transformation, and Romantasy Trope that fit the woman her story made her—and the bad habit it left behind. New players are welcome. I’ll guide you through every choice, and no setting homework is required.

Preparing for the session

Before the game, please: • Join the SagaForge Discord server. • Ensure you have a working microphone and stable internet connection. • Create a free Alchemy VTT account and join the game using the link provided. • Come ready to create your own gloriously over-the-top romantasy heroine. No homework or setting knowledge required. • Bring a sense of humor, a willingness to embrace the tropes, and terrible taste in fictional romantic partners.

What Rob Duke brings to the table

BAD ROMANCE is loud, flirty, ridiculous, and a little unhinged—but player comfort always comes first. Here’s what you can expect from me: • A safe, inclusive table with clear boundaries, safety tools, and open communication. Romance, flirting, and mature humor are always opt-in, and “no” never needs an explanation. • Immersive, character-driven GMing with memorable NPCs, distinct voices, ambient music, and plenty of opportunities to steal the spotlight. • Rule of Cool Daggerheart that rewards bold choices, creative solutions, dramatic entrances, and occasionally terrible ideas. • Romance on your terms. Pursue it, reject it, flirt shamelessly, or ignore it entirely. Mature themes and innuendo are welcome; explicit intimacy fades to black. • A polished online experience with Alchemy VTT, custom artwork, handouts, and everything you need to embrace your inner romantasy disaster. Come ready to flirt, fight, raise hell, and have your girls' backs.

Homebrew rules

BAD ROMANCE uses the standard Daggerheart rules, including character options from the Hope & Fear expansion, with a light homebrew character overlay created specifically for this adventure. Choose from the expanded classes, domains, ancestries, communities, equipment, and transformations—including options such as Witch, Warlock, Assassin, Vampire, Werewolf, and Demigod—to build your ideal romantasy heroine. You'll then choose a Romantasy Trope and push it to its gloriously questionable conclusion, shaping your relationships, complications, and the trouble waiting for you at The Red Masquerade. Otherwise, we play Daggerheart as written, with plenty of room for creative choices and the Rule of Cool when it makes the story better.

How Rob Duke creates a safe table

BAD ROMANCE may be unhinged. The table will not be. Player comfort and consent always come before the game. We’ll establish Lines & Veils before play and use X, N & O throughout the session so anyone can redirect or stop content without needing to explain why. Romance, flirting, suggestive humor, and mature themes are always opt-in. No player will ever be pressured into romantic or intimate roleplay, and intimate scenes always fade to black. We’ll take breaks as needed and leave time after the session to decompress, check in, and make sure everyone leaves the table feeling good about the experience. We can push fictional boundaries without pushing yours.
