About the adventure
1927. The champagne is flowing, the jazz is playing, and the most glamorous train in Europe is hurtling through the night. By morning, one of you will be a murderer. Welcome aboard the Midnight Express, where aristocrats rub shoulders with flappers, performers share champagne with millionaires, and everyone seems to be travelling with something to hide. You have each received an invitation to an exclusive midnight soirée aboard the train. The dress code is extravagant, the guest list is remarkably private, and your mysterious host has promised an evening none of you will ever forget. They were right. When one passenger fails to appear, their compartment is opened to reveal a horrifying discovery. A body. A locked door. And a single playing card resting upon the victim’s chest. The train hasn’t stopped. Nobody has boarded. Nobody has left. The killer is still aboard. Suddenly, everyone is a suspect. Over the course of the evening, you’ll investigate luxurious sleeping compartments, question suspicious passengers, uncover hidden relationships and piece together clues scattered throughout the train. But this isn’t simply a case of finding fingerprints and pointing at the suspicious gentleman in the corner. Every character has secrets. Every character has motives. And every character has something they desperately don’t want the others to discover. Expect a heavily roleplay focused murder mystery inspired by the glamour and intrigue of classic 1920s detective fiction. You’ll step into a character with their own personality, relationships, secrets and objectives, then decide exactly how you want to portray them. Lie. Flirt. Accuse. Investigate. Form alliances. Betray them five minutes later. Sneak somewhere you absolutely shouldn’t be. Pour another glass of champagne while insisting you couldn’t possibly have committed murder. Throughout the game, new evidence will emerge and the mystery will begin to unravel. Some clues will bring you closer to the truth. Others may expose secrets that have nothing to do with the murder at all. And somewhere among you, someone knows exactly what happened. No previous roleplaying experience is required. This game is designed to be immersive, theatrical and accessible whether you’re an experienced roleplayer or stepping into your very first mystery. So put on your finest evening wear, perfect your 1920s alter ego and prepare for a night of scandal, secrets and murder. The Midnight Express is already moving. And until the murderer is found, nobody is getting off
Meet the Game Master
About me
Hi, I’m Jo, CEO, Founder and Ringmaster of Dice Circus, an Streamed Actual Play built around one simple philosophy: This is my circus, and these are my monkeys. 🎪 I’m a Game Master, storyteller and professional chaos coordinator with a love for cinematic, character driven D&D. I created Dice Circus to build the kind of table I always wanted to play at, somewhere players can be ridiculous one minute, emotionally devastated the next, and completely invested in the story we’re creating together. My GM style is heavily focused on roleplay, immersive storytelling and player choice. I love building living worlds filled with complicated NPCs, mysteries, relationships, consequences and those tiny character moments that somehow become more important than the entire main quest. Combat at my table isn’t just “I attack. 17 to hit.” I want to know what that attack looks like. What your character is feeling. What the enemy does when they realise they’re losing. I love cinematic encounters, environmental mechanics, unconventional objectives and combat that actually moves the story forward. I’m the creator and GM behind Valyndor, the homebrew world at the heart of Dice Circus, a world of fractured kingdoms, forbidden magic, morally questionable organisations, terrifying creatures, lesbian pirates, deeply suspicious islands and an alarming number of NPCs my players have decided to adopt. As CEO of Dice Circus Ltd, I also produce and develop our Actual Play content, livestreams, characters, worlds and growing circus of creative projects. My tables are welcoming, LGBTQ+ friendly and built around collaboration rather than trying to “beat” the GM. You don’t need to be an incredible actor, know every rule or arrive with a five page backstory. Bring me a character you’re excited about and a willingness to play, and we’ll build the rest together. Expect big characters, bigger consequences, terrible decisions, found family, horror, comedy, romance, mysteries, dramatic reveals and an unreasonable amount of emotional attachment to fictional people. 🎪 Welcome to the Circus.

Creating your character
Character creation is completely free reign. This is your chance to create the glamorous, suspicious or downright scandalous 1920s character you’ve always wanted to play. The only requirement is that your character should have a job, profession or social position that makes sense for the 1920s setting and gives them a believable reason to be travelling aboard the Midnight Express. You could be a jazz singer, flapper, journalist, private detective, doctor, wealthy socialite, performer, photographer, boxer, businessman, maid, chauffeur, bartender, artist, criminal, fortune teller or something entirely of your own creation. Your possessions must also fit the period. Anything your character brings aboard the train should reasonably exist in the 1920s. Think pocket watches, cigarette cases, handwritten letters, cameras, hip flasks, jewellery, newspapers, luggage and other period appropriate belongings. No sneaking a mobile phone onto the Midnight Express! 😉 Beyond that, go wild. Give them secrets. Give them enemies. Give them a scandalous past. Maybe they’re travelling under a false name. Maybe they’re running from something. Maybe they know far more about the other passengers than they’re willing to admit. Once you’ve created the foundations, I’ll weave your character into the mystery, giving them connections, information and reasons to become involved in what happens aboard the train. Dress them up. Give them an accent. Become someone completely different for the evening. Just remember, on the Midnight Express, everyone has something to hide.

What Ringmaster brings to the table
What I Bring as Your GM You bring the suspects. I’ll bring the murder. I want the Midnight Express to feel like more than a game. I want you to feel like you’ve stepped aboard a luxurious 1920s train where something has gone terribly wrong. Detailed Maps Explore the train and its different locations throughout the mystery. Search compartments, investigate suspicious areas and perhaps wander somewhere you shouldn’t. Atmospheric Music Music changes alongside the story, from glamorous 1920s jazz to darker and more sinister sounds as the investigation unfolds. Immersive Sound Effects The train rattling along the tracks, whistles in the distance, doors opening, footsteps approaching and environmental sounds help bring every scene to life. Clues and Evidence Discover evidence, examine suspicious objects and piece together information as you attempt to uncover what really happened. Private Secrets Some information will be given directly to individual players. What you choose to reveal, conceal or lie about is entirely up to you. Fully Roleplayed NPCs Every passenger you encounter has their own personality, motives and secrets, complete with my questionable attempts at various accents. My Scottish accent occasionally refuses to stay hidden! Puzzles and Red Herrings Not everything you discover will lead directly to the murderer. You’ll need to decide what matters and what might be leading you completely off course. Character Connections I’ll take the characters you create and weave them into the story, giving you connections, relationships and reasons to care about what happens aboard the train. Custom Visuals and Artwork Characters, important locations, evidence and key moments may be brought to life visually throughout your journey. Most importantly, I bring a story that reacts to you. Search the compartments, interrogate passengers, sneak somewhere forbidden, form alliances, expose secrets or confidently accuse the completely wrong person. I’ll control the train, portray its passengers and fill your journey with maps, music, sound effects, secrets and cinematic storytelling. You just have to uncover the murderer before the Midnight Express reaches its final stop.
