About the adventure

You have the reins. I present the world, the situations, and the consequences. You decide where to go, what to pursue, who to trust, and which risks are worth taking. There is no predetermined path through the campaign and no single solution you are expected to find. Drakkenheim is built around exploration, survival, tactical combat, and faction conflict. The city is a living environment, not simply a series of encounters waiting to be cleared. What you discover, who you work with, and the choices you make can open new opportunities, create new problems, and change how the campaign unfolds. I put a strong emphasis on narration and making your choices matter. Dice rolls don't always mean a simple pass or fail. When appropriate, setbacks can create new complications rather than bringing the story to a dead stop. The goal is to keep the action moving while letting the dice and your decisions determine where it goes. The campaign uses the D&D 2024 updates to classes and spells, along with content from Dungeons of Drakkenheim, Sebastian Crowe's Guide to Drakkenheim, and Monsters of Drakkenheim. This includes Drakkenheim-specific subclasses and the Apothecary class, giving you plenty of options for creating a character that fits the setting. The game is played through Foundry Virtual Tabletop, which is free for players and runs directly through your web browser. I use detailed maps, dynamic lighting, atmospheric audio, visual effects, and automation to make exploration and combat feel like more than moving tokens around a map.

About me

Hi everyone! I'm DM Bryant. I've been playing and running D&D for 24 years, and I'm now a full-time Dungeon Master. I've run 180+ games here on StartPlaying. I enjoy running long-form campaigns where players have room to explore, make their own decisions, and actually see those decisions matter. I like a good mix of roleplay, tactical combat, exploration, and the occasional plan that goes completely off the rails. I use published adventures as a foundation, not a script. If your characters decide to go somewhere unexpected or pursue something that caught their attention, I'm happy to see where it leads. I want the campaign to develop from what the players actually do. I also put a lot of work into my online games. I've spent thousands of hours working with Foundry VTT, using detailed maps, dynamic lighting, music, soundscapes, weather, visual effects, automation, and interactive elements. Foundry is free for players and works right in your browser. I primarily run D&D 5e, with a particular interest in dark fantasy, exploration, faction conflicts, and campaigns where choices have consequences. At my table, the goal is to challenge the characters, not to beat the players. I want failure to create interesting situations and success to feel earned. I also want everyone at the table to feel welcome, so I use Lines & Veils, the Golden Rule, and Aftercare to help set expectations. If that sounds like your kind of game, take a look at my campaigns and come roll some dice with me.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will be using the 2024 ruleset, but as a DM that has been DMing 5e since it came out, I do not agree with a couple of the changes made, specifically grapples and shoves, and the new Dispel Magic and Counterspell. I will have a list of which books I allow in my campaign in the Discord once you join. We will be starting at level 1, using point buy for characters. Most races and classes are accepted. I also own Sebastian Crowe's Guide to Drakkenheim as well, which offers many new subclasses, and offers a whole new class, the Apothecary.
