About the adventure

Stonetop is a small village at the edge of a dangerous, Iron Age world. No king or empire rules here - it's just you, the people you grew up with, and the families that have been here forever. You know them all, their stories and their songs, their woes and their joys. And, most importantly, when something goes wrong, there are no wandering heroes coming to fix it. If winter stores run short, something starts taking sheep, or an old ruin suddenly becomes much less abandoned than everyone thought, you are the people who will have to do something about it. This is a campaign about adventure, exploration, and coming home again. You’ll venture into haunted forests, forgotten ruins, and strange places left behind by older civilizations. The village changes because of what you do, and over time it becomes as much a part of the campaign as any character. There is no epic quest. There is no Great Evil lurking in the dark and fetid lair, waiting to conquer the world. There is you, the winter and the three hundred people that rely on you from time to time, same as you rely on them. If you ever wanted to see what all these little places you rush by in other RPGs are about, this is the campaign for you.

About me

Greetings from Central Asia! I’m a full-time professional Game Master based in Almaty, Kazakhstan, with over 800 sessions hosted on StartPlaying and over a decade of experience running roleplaying games. I specialise in long-form, character-driven campaigns, particularly dark fantasy, science fiction, horror, and faction-heavy adventures. My games combine the structure and depth of published campaigns with the freedom of a home game. I reshape adventures around the characters, their relationships, and the consequences of their decisions rather than forcing the group through a fixed script. I bring more than a decade of professional experience as an interpreter and international tour guide into my games, too.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created together, at the table, during Session 0. Session 0 is also going to be used to firmly ground the characters in the setting of Stonetop - their life in the village, their connections, relations and families. All the character creation will be done on Foundry.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll need a Forge and a Discord account. Having a decent microphone and a quiet room for the session is a big bonus. Other than that, bring your hearth fantasy ideas - and we'll help you build a real, likeable character that fits this world!

What Sergey Sakharov brings to the table

I'll bring a fully set up campaign on Foundry, complete with scenic art, occasional battlemaps and tokens - everything you need to visualise your journey through the Iron Age that never was! The majority of the game takes place in Theater of the Mind, so I will have illustrated scenes, tokens and other visual aids to facilitate your imagination. Battlemaps will be used for tactical scenarios and the more involved combats to make sure we're all on the same page! I tend to follow the players' lead in the games. Most of the time my adventures are shaped as "landscapes", with multiple ways to achieve your goals, and a lot of freedom in choosing how you get to the adventure's objective.

Safety

How Sergey Sakharov creates a safe table

Iron Age can at times be brutal - no in the grotesque "blood and guts" way, but in the simple and hard truths of life. That said, there are a few lines that won't be crossed under any circumstances: - Explicit depiction of sexual encounters. They may be hinted at, but never "on screen". - No sexual assault of PCs or NPCs. - Gory naturalistic details of violence will be mostly given "at large". I don't delve into the massive amount of bloody details. Lines & Veils will be discussed during Session 0.
