Vale High - A Monsterhearts 2 | 18+
It's senior year at Vale High, and the fangs are out. It's hard being a teen anywhere, but it's harder when *you* are what goes bump in the night.

About the adventure
The bell rings on the first day of school at Vale High. The halls are full of rowdy reunions, hushed gossip and palpable anxiety. Faculty and staff fill mugs with industrial strength coffee and promise each other that this year will be different. Oh, and a portal to Hell gently pulses under the school. Everyone in Vale City knows the city is weird: strange visions, unexplained phenomenon, the occasional disappearance. But some people *know* it's weird. Hidden by a fragile Fae spell, the city is home to werewolves, vampires, mummies, and nearly everything else, *Oh my....*. The occasional mortal also stumbles past the illusion, and must keep the secret, "cross their heart, hope to die". Vale High is an M-rated game played using Monsterhearts 2, a Powered by the Apocalypse system that focuses everything on lip-biting tension, pulse pounding action and drama-club levels of... teen drama. The GM is 27 year role playing veteran who's favorite genre is horror comedy. This game will be fast-paced, dramatic, hilarious, tense, sometimes scary and *always* spicy.

About me
I've been GMing nearly every week for over 26 years! I've done professional GMing for events such as birthday parties, corporate events and even a bachelor party once. Personally, telling and sharing stories is my life. Everyone brings something totally and perfectly unique to any tale, and I live to see those moments realized. When I'm not playing games, I enjoy designing them (though whether what I make is any good is a matter of fierce debate...).
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
Character creation will happen collaboratively during Session 0, although players will have access to a Discord Forum where they can discuss and plan together prior to the campaign starting. Building characters in Monsterhearts 2 is extremely quick once you've picked your "skin". If you are unfamiliar with Powered by the Apocalypse games, a skin is roughly equivalent to a class. The core skins for the game are found here: https://buriedwithoutceremony.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/reference-sheets-and-core-skins1.pdf Third party skins may be used *with GM approval*.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players should create a Roll20 account if they don't already have one. Roll20 is the virtual tabletope we'll be using to play the game: https://app.roll20.net/ It's optional but highly encouraged that players also have a Discord account so that they can join the game's server: discord.com Lastly, as choosing a skin can be a big decision, it's highly advisable that players look over the available skins prior to Session 0 to get an idea of whom they'd like to play: https://buriedwithoutceremony.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/reference-sheets-and-core-skins1.pdf
What Zen Ferno brings to the table
I do voices. I cue ambient music when it's appropriate. While it is not the focus of Monsterhearts 2, I won't shy from combat if it makes sense, and if there is a fight, it will feel like a scene from the Castlevania anime. I have years of experience crafting stories with intrigue, romance, tragedy, comedy, lust, horror and a heavy dose of cosmic absurdism. I also take feedback and player experience very seriously. Chat with me about anything, and we'll work something out.
Homebrew rules
Currently the only homebrew rule I will be playing with is Stacking Damage (the base rules can have players die from papercuts), and access to *some* third party skins.

Safety
How Zen Ferno creates a safe table
Monsterhearts 2 is, by design, a game that deals with virtually every element of human (and monster) vice. This game expects and requires a level of maturity and willingness to suspend judgement in pursuit of exploring our darker sides. I will be sending out a Lines and Veils document, and set expectations as well as can be done during Session 0. Bearing this in mind, the primary safety tool will be *open, honest and forthcoming communication*. Players will be encouraged and required to state if something is impeding their experience, and the group will move on. After a Session, players will have the opportunity to amend their Lines and Veils in a completely judgement free zone. I will also have a side channel open at all times in-and-out of games for players to reach me if they do not feel comfortable addressing the group, and such feedback will remain anonymous. Use this space to explore your voice, feel safe and dangerous, and above all, have a little fun.
