About the adventure

For one reason or another, you chose to leave your old life behind. You needed a fresh start — that's why you're traveling through the country with nothing but a few belongings, and a new life waiting at the end of the road. Tonight, the road ends in Ebernburg. And Ebernburg has plans for you. This is a town that's been feeding something in the dark woods for longer than anyone living can remember. Tonight, it's your turn to run. This game plays like the best kind of low-budget Saturday-night horror movie — the kind where the locals won't meet your eyes, and the woods are a lot less empty than they look. If that's your genre, you already know what you're in for. We're running it with the Cypher System — light, narrative-first rules that get out of the way and let the tension do the work. The bus isn't coming back before morning. Will you make it to sunrise?

About me

Step into Khitan’s Crossing. I’m GM Khitan, and at my table, every decision matters and every character leaves a mark on the world. Here, your choices shape the story, your relationships evolve naturally, and the narrative responds to the paths you take. Adventures unfold in rich, immersive worlds, full of meaningful dilemmas, unexpected turns, and moments that stay with you long after the session ends. Every session is a chance to explore, to test your character, and to dive into stories that are as dynamic and alive as the players at the table. I focus on crafting experiences where your creativity drives the journey, your roleplay shapes the narrative, and your character’s growth is central. Take a seat at the Crossing — your story begins now, and the path is yours to shape.

Character creation

Creating your character

Pre-generated characters will be available if you'd rather jump straight in — no experience or system knowledge needed. If you'd like to build your own, that's welcome too. You'll create a Tier 1 Cypher System character. Since this is a modern-day horror adventure, characters are everyday people rather than seasoned adventurers — so character options will be limited to fit that tone, rather than anything overtly superhuman.

The current party

The adventure will not start before Saturday 10th of October

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To play in this game, you'll need: - A stable internet connection - A Discord account, for voice chat and our group server - A free Sqyre account — this is what I'll use to host the game on Foundry VTT (quick to set up, I'll send the link once you join) - A decent microphone - A relatively quiet environment to play in Cameras are welcome, but not required.

What GM Khitan brings to the table

Everything's ready to go — you just need to show up. I'll provide the rules, pre-generated characters, and a fully built-out Foundry scene for Ebernburg, with atmospheric images, tokens, music, and sound effects to match the mood of the night. What I bring beyond that is tension that builds and doesn't let go. Your choices genuinely shape how the night goes — this isn't a game on rails, and it isn't a night of cheap jump scares. It's fear that's earned, one decision at a time.

Homebrew rules

Cypher System is a modular game, and we'll be drawing from the Stay Alive! sourcebook to keep things dark, dangerous, and tense. Cypher characters are normally sturdy and capable from the start — great for heroic fantasy, less so for a night where you're supposed to feel like prey. These modules exist to bring the horror back into horror. Nothing here is locked in — we'll walk through each one together in Session 0, and the group decides what stays and what gets cut. The modules on the table: - Fragility - Horror Mode - Hysteria - Instant Panic - Ironman - Perilous Venture - Unease Between them, they touch things like how much damage hurts, how fear affects your character, and how permanent death can be.

Safety

How GM Khitan creates a safe table

This is a horror game, and it leans into it — expect curses, gore, and body horror along the way. Before we start, we'll run a Session 0 to set Lines and Veils together, so everyone at the table has a say in what's on the table and what isn't. During play, I check in if a scene starts running hot, and anyone can flag a pause at any time — no explanation needed. Your comfort always comes first. Fear is the goal of the fiction, never of the table itself.
