About the adventure

This game acts as a way to explore the themes of Eberron as a setting, and to give players a fun "wild west" experience within the wide magic and pulp action that Eberron can bring to the table. Players can expect to meet daring wandslingers, rangle rowdy tribexes, and battle (or befriend) the monstrous denizens of Droaam. The game takes place in the frontier town known as Quickstone and uses the Frontiers of Eberron: Quickstone book from Keith Baker as the basis of the setting. The party's default hook is that they have, through some means or another, acquired permanent lodging in Quickstone and have some stake in the overall progress of the town and the prosperity of its people. Characters can be expected to encounter belligerent demon-worshiping minotaurs, mysterious and deranged stone cultists, wandering desperados, and all manner of traditional Dungeons and Dragons threats found in familiar but different contexts, while pursuing party and personal goals. If no other idea presents itself during player discussion and a session 0, the adventure "Heart of Stone" will be used with some modifications for balance as needed. All official content will be allowed for this game, as well as anything written by Keith Baker himself (Frontiers, Exploring Eberron, etc.)

About me

Hello! My name is Zane Benavidez. I am a cave creature with chronic anxiety and a loud mouth, that will try desperately to make a cohesive story for people to follow and enjoy. I can't promise a fully immersive experience but I can promise a fairly robust ability to improvise and utilize DMing tools. My games are run in Dungeons and Dragons 5e, Stars Without Number, Worlds Without Number, and Starfinder. I prefer to utilize FoundryVTT through my own machine and like to utilize a personal Discord channel, with a category designated for each campaign that I'm currently running. Please don't be afraid to speak to me if you have any problems. I'm always willing to help smooth things over if my play experience isn't what you were looking for.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will happen before session 1 by logging into FoundryVTT through the use of my Forge server, and accessing a sheet that will be created for the player in mind. If possible, time can be set aside to discuss a player's concept and sheet. All 5e 2014 and '24 content is allowed, as well as any Eberron supplement by Keith Baker. Homebrew and other 3rd party content will be considered on a case-by-case basis. All characters get a free feat at level 1 if using the 2014 rules. Ability scores are rolled as 4d6, drop the lowest one. Please exercise discretion about this, it's best you don't try to cheat as it may diminish your experience All characters will start at level 3, as the first two levels are very squishy and I prefer to avoid them. It is heavily encouraged to pick species and backgrounds that give the character some buy-in with the setting: worgs, goblins, kobolds, gnolls, etc are encouraged for their ties to Droaam, while dragonmarked individuals are equally desired for their faction's investment and hooks. This is OPTIONAL, and merely serves to make it easier on me to provide hooks and interesting story beats.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please read this: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nw5qnC0qgzh6476V_pQZrBdyxaYkUbSqww93BGu2aro/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.caykinhxtdse (credit goes to reddit user Accomplished_Egg8884) A Discord account and a Forge-VTT.com account will be required to participate (no additional fee!) The game will be run in Foundry VTT using the 5e system

What Zane brings to the table

To set the tone I use a variety of music from modules provided on FoundryVTT's marketplace, as well as a variety of maps and resources I have collected and crafted over the years - Dungeondraft and Dungeon Alchemist are favorites of mine. I enjoy a mixture of roleplay, exploration, and combat, with a heavy leaning on improvisation and the Rule of Cool. I'm more about rulings over rules, and if an argument can be made that something might work a certain way, I can be convinced. You might be surprised what you can get away with if you make it sound cool enough...

Safety

How Zane creates a safe table

As a GM that's relatively new to the usage of safety tools, I will primarily be using a Lines and Veils document that players can copy and send to me, and I will be implementing the use of an X card in the form of a module in Foundry VTT. All players may also "raise their hand" with a module if they feel they need to ask a question or if they feel run over verbally.
