About the adventure

**From Gold to Dust** is a dark-fantasy D&D campaign set in a world being slowly consumed by the Miasma—a supernatural force that twists the land, awakens ancient horrors, and makes the spaces between civilization increasingly deadly. Great cities, forgotten ruins, strange machines, monstrous battlefields, and remnants of civilizations lost to war are scattered across the world. Powerful factions struggle to survive, ancient powers are beginning to move again, and your characters are thrown into the middle of it all. This is a **cinematic, story-driven campaign with plenty of tactical combat, exploration, mystery, and meaningful player choice**. I build encounters to be more than simply standing in a room trading attacks. Battlefields may change around you, objectives can matter as much as killing the enemy, and dangerous environments can become weapons if you're clever enough to use them. Outside of combat, expect strange locations to explore, NPCs with their own motivations, powerful relics to discover, and decisions that can permanently change the direction of the story. The game is designed for players who enjoy **dark fantasy, horror, heroic moments, unusual monsters, powerful magic items, and discovering a completely original setting**. Roleplay is encouraged, but you don't need to be a professional actor or know every D&D rule. Newer players are welcome, and experienced players will have plenty of opportunities to experiment with builds, tactics, and creative solutions. Most importantly, I want the party to drive the adventure. There isn't one correct way through the story. You can negotiate with enemies, chase dangerous secrets, protect people who need you, make questionable alliances, or charge directly into something you probably shouldn't. **From Gold to Dust is about discovering what kind of heroes your characters become when the world around them starts falling apart.**

About me

I’m a Canadian farmer, longtime storyteller, and Dungeon Master who loves building immersive worlds where player choices genuinely matter. Away from the table, I work a hands-on life in farming, which has given me a practical, grounded approach to problem-solving—and that carries directly into the way I run D&D. I like giving players real situations, meaningful choices, and the freedom to come up with solutions I never expected. As a DM, I specialize in dark fantasy, horror, exploration, cinematic combat, and heavily customized worlds. My games feature original monsters, magic items, factions, locations, maps, and encounter mechanics, while still keeping the focus firmly on the player characters and their stories. I put a lot of preparation into every session because I want the world to feel alive rather than like a series of disconnected encounters. Expect dangerous adventures, strange discoveries, memorable NPCs, tactical fights, and plenty of opportunities to completely derail whatever I thought was going to happen. Whether you’re an experienced player or sitting down at a D&D table for the first time, my goal is to give you a game you’ll still be talking about after the session ends.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters begin at **Level 3**. Each character starts with: * **1 extra feat** * **1 uncommon magic item** of your choice * Standard starting equipment I also provide a **heavily expanded Roll20 Charactermancer** with additional **classes, subclasses, races/species, feats, spells, and other character options** beyond the standard choices. **All Charactermancer options are welcome.** Build the character you actually want to play—creative, unusual, specialized, and powerful builds are all encouraged. I design encounters around the characters at the table rather than restricting your options.

What Sysafey brings to the table

I provide a heavily prepared, story-driven game with custom maps, encounters, monsters, magic items, and a world that reacts to player choices. Combat is tactical and dangerous, but I still leave room for creative ideas and the Rule of Cool when it makes the game better. I prefer keeping the game moving rather than stopping play over small rules disputes. Expect cinematic descriptions, meaningful choices, exploration, roleplay, and big set-piece encounters. I give players plenty of freedom to approach problems their own way instead of forcing a single solution.

I play rules as written so nobody is guessing.

Safety

How Sysafey creates a safe table

I use an X-Card at the table. If anything becomes uncomfortable, a player can use the X-Card and we’ll immediately skip, change, or move past the content without requiring an explanation. During Session 0, I also go over the game’s tone and expectations so everyone knows what kind of campaign they’re joining. Players are always welcome to message me privately if there’s something they want me to avoid.
